Thought I'd got everything sorted to take delivery of my imported Z (what a performance) Now I've got a headache with insurance! I had comprehensive quote, or so I thought, at £650.P/A but now I'm told I cannot get insurance at all because it's a Japanese import - tried half a dozen companies this pm. - all the same - aghh!!

I know there must be somebody out there willing to insure the car.

Any ideas?

Cheers Phil

Try Bell Direct (0800 140 180)

I've just bought a TT. Age 34 60% No Claims, Sussex permium was just over £500 (which I thought was pretty good as I started at nearly £800 ...)

Try Adrian Flux. They quoted me £710 and no-one else will quote under £1000! I'm still trying to get a decent quote for when I decide to chip it!

For intake+exhaust on a '91 TT import at 31.

Privilege - £1600

Admiral - £1000 (£1830 with a chip)

Most others can't be bothered to quote when they hear what Adrian Flux have quoted!

Bell Direct are OK cheapest so far,

I am with them at the moment.

I live in ESSEX, 1992 TT UK spec car full NCB with modifications paying £630 and limited milage of 13k.

Bell would only do my engine mods upto 10 % power increase 8-(

If anyone knows of a better place, I can go with them and get more power out of my car and be covered.

Thanks

Another Dave ;-)

Someone PLEASE help me! As I mentioned t Nico recently in an email, I'm having a complete nightmare this year with insurance.

I don't understand it. I've earnt one more year no claims, no accidents and convictions over the last year, I'm turning 25; and yet:

Bell Direct: £2032

Ensleigh: £2844 (I'm insured with them this year for 1300!)

Adrian FLux: £1979

AA: £6995 (no shit!).

WTF! No idea what is going on here. Any help would be appreciated. Had no trouble getting insured last year.

Andy

In the previous thread i posted a link to, you can find this info :-

Greenlight Insurance will insure UK cars, stock and modified, through Highway.

Call Jeff on 01277 263030 and mention that you are part of 300zx.co.uk and that i have my insurance through them.

They will also cover imports, but this is through Norwich Union and is not the same deal as with Highway. So expect a price of £1000 or more.

They are trying to sort this out though.

I have full no claims, no points, south london, mods, £710 comp. + legal

have any of you guys considered looking at collectors insurance on your cars. the 300 comes under this as it is collectable and although not that old is still considered for classic insurance mine is. it was the only way for me to do it as i've been banned six times and had just had some muppet bump the hire car i was given when my cossie was nicked so as you can imagine the insurance companies were rubbing their hands when i rang

Craig,

I went to Greenlight first as we have a 21 year old here on the forum (sorry, forgot your name) with a protected NCB. Anyway, it appears that Greenlight will only touch me WITH Highway.

Here's the problem:

Highway are a very small company and can only handle a certain number of policies each year. It's November.....no policies left! The Greenlight people said to try them January 1st (or whatever the first working day is). That leaves me with 28days no insurance. I'm also tempted to get insured for just 6 months or so anyway so that my renewal is in summer and hopefully cheaper.

Any more ideas?

Andy, have you considered removing the Superchips ECU (as it doesn't do anything other than remove the 155mph limiter anyway!) and seeing if you can get a decent quote then.

In the new year you can ring around again and see if it's worth cancelling and taking out a new policy.

And Tooley - you've been banned 6 times?! If you've served 6 bans and are allowed to drive again now, you must be about 60! That doesn't sound right!

Tooley never said he was allowed to drive again - just that hed been banned 6 times ;-)

/\/\ark

without going into to much detail to hide my shame and guilt in my shall we say formative years i was a bit of a bad lad you don't get to learn doughnuts in school you know and two of my bans were before i could even drive legally. my first offence involved me and three chums in our dinner hour at school when the miners strike was on and i amassed a total of 132 points in one hit because of aiding and abetting. but i saw the error of my ways and the police cars in manchester no longer have sponsered by brian toole on the side of them and i am now just a mild mannered joe public.

Craig, my car is a UK spec.

Dave, since I didn't fit the Superchips ECU, I'm pretending that I never opened up that wooden footplate! As far as I (or the insurance companies know) I have a stock 300 (gonna be tough when I get a JWT and boost jets soon!)

1. Try the companies on www.maxpower.co.uk under the insurance section. Also, I have found Privilege to be very good for modified cars: Calibra Turbo 4x4 w/ 30-40% increase in power (including Superchip), up to £2000 of external mods, 5yrs NCB, 24 years old - £790. Also, I was quoted £514 for a standard 300 TT by Bell direct

2. I have heard that the ECU is not checked by insurance companies when a claim is investigated, however, if a car is modified in other ways it is mre likely that it WILL be checked and then you;re stuffed.

3. Tooley - how do you go about claiming the 300 as a collectors' car? Is proof required? What distinguishes it as such?

i'll get the number of the broker i stumbled on it by chance as i went in after part exing the spitfire run around i had and thought i would have to change it but they just turned round and said it could still be insured through the same policy the price went up but it was nothing like some opf the quotes i was getting i'll let you know once i've got home and dug all the details out

Thanks everyone! My premium will be winging its way to Bell Direct and for a saving of £150 on what I was going to pay!!

(That'll get me one O.Z. anyway!)

Thanks again

Phil

Andrew - If it was me you were referring to (21-year old with protected NCB) -

I am actually insured with Lancaster Insurance - 01480 484848. they insure me fully comp, 4 yrs protected NCB for £1250.

i have also heard that Highway (who my policy is with) are not taking on new policies until 2001. Maybe its worth insuring your 300 on a month policy in order to try Lancaster in January?

Nick,

maybe it was you I was referring to (can't be bothered to check all the old posts now!). I used to think I was the youngest on this forum when I got my Z at 23. I dunno, kids these days ;-)

I am actually thinking of taking out insurance until the end of February as I turn 25 on the 26th.

I did get promising feedback from Quotes Direct today. They quoted 2500 but the guy (who was one of the supervisors) said it didn't make sense with my good history. He then asked about other cars I have owned or been insured on and saw I had a history of very fast cars (and have never had an accident) so he is gonna try and arrange something very special for me (he reckoned around 1600 which is a damn site better than the original 2500). He's gonna let me know tomorrow - I'll post the result here as soon as I know.

Andy

Good news everyone!

I've just had a quote of £1500.01 which (as you can see from my previous posts) is pretty competitive. I dunno if this will work for others but he asked about whether I was used to very fast cars and I gave him a list of other cars I have been insured on (highlights being Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, TVR, Honda NSX, Lotus and Porsche). This insurer originally quoted me almost double the 1500 quote so it may work for some of you others if you are struggling. I'm probably gonna shop around come March anyway as I will have hit 25 and should be able to get protected NCB and some better deals.

Andy

Come on Tooley, what's the name of this broker of yours? I've only got 4 days until I need to renew!

It seems that almost every broker uses Highway for imported cars. As they're not doing any more policies this year, the rates have gone through the roof. :-(

sorry m8 i've been on platstation 2 overload all night the brokers are sharmans o1942 88 28 28 hope it works out better. right i'm off to turn myself into a vegetable for the weekend

Thanks Tooley. They're trying to get me a quote. They do insure imports and, despite from the fact that she thought a 300ZX was a motorbike, they seemed quite happy to insure pretty much anything. :-)
