Hi All,

Does everyone with a TT notice quite a bit of white exhaust smoke on startup during these colder mornings ? Is this normal ? Seems to die down after 15 minutes or so.

Good news...my insurance quote came thru today....£521 Fully Comp with the AA !! Not bad eh ? I'm 39 full NCB based in Newport Pagnell near Milton Keynes.

 

Are you sure it's not steam ? If it's only happening in the cold then it's likely to be that. But 15 mins is a long time - mine does it for about 5 mins.

 

White smoke would be burning oil. Most likely cause is rear oil seal on the turbos. This will be most prominent if you run the car to normal temperature, then stop it for 2 minutes, then start it and let it idle. If seals are gone, lots of white smoke within a couple of mins.

I get that sometimes for well over 5 mins, just a lot of condensation after sitting around for a few days in the garage then going into the extream cold I guess.

Im currently working in Milton Keynes. May have to meet up some time!

 

As for the smoke, my does the same. Mixture of steam and the bluish tint of burning oil. It smokes when idling for long periods too. Bloody turbo oil seals.

I have same only happening form left twin pipe, it must be seals...have to sort them out....what happens if you wait long time before sorting it out?

 

 

The Seals will be fine untill they just smoke far too much. Just keep and eye on your Oil level as it is gettin burnt off where it shouldn't be that is the smoke you are seeing.

 

If you get a nice new H / X pipe you can look doubly uncool with smoke from both pipes :o) Its all cosmetic to a stage.
