Occasionally, when pootling around town I get a chemical / tar / petrol / smell inside the car. Any ideas what it could be?

Hoi..don't hijack my smelly thread

All cats do give off an eggy smell when the engine is warming up, but cant see why it should get in the car, I had a problem a while back that was a bit farty, it turned out to be fuel fumes from under the bonnet, it only happened when it was on warm up, I just re made all the fuel related connectors. not happened since

Both my Zeds have let off occasional eggy whiffs! As Mike said above, it's sulphur burning in the cats. No more cats = no more smell

Bin the cats! - It's the only way.

(but just in case it might be worth checking the glove box for any old eggs!)

Why would Optimax help?

Why would Optimax help?

Worth a try: take off your gearstick gaitor (if you've got a manual, don't know fek all about auto's!) and check that the rubber seal is still in place - mine wasn't...

Another possibility is air con - turn it on full and blast it for a while - get all the stinkin condensation out!

did the above and cured the smell on mine.

Why would Optimax help?

the egg smell is usually unburnt fuel m8, mine had a similar problem when it first came from japan and a tank of unleaded, since using optimax it's gone

Could the smell be anything to do with the fact that one of my AIVs is grumbling like an old man at a chav car park convention? ie not burning cat fuel properly?
