I Spent £900 in diagnostics last year, just to get told I had a knackered engine, this time I am trying to work it out myself, but as duffy is unavailable Ive no one local to help.

Just trying to see what you guys can come up with

I have had an engine change it seems ok and compression seems ok, mods are only- filter/ de cat exhaust.

There seems to be no power below three thousand revs. On a standing start if I was to let the clutch out and not rev the flywheel up a bit, the car would would probably kangaroo. the hesitation is worse when cold, also if I bury the throttle the car accelerates but not as it should, when I back the throttle off again the car seems to leap forward a little just before the throttle is shut off completely.

I didnt think this was Turbo related because it is on the low revs, I am thinking this could be timing but have no light to check it, also I have considered over fueling in which case the lambe sensors where new, any thoughts?

Its a while since I've seen a Haynes manual so i'm not sure about this, but the plugs looked a little weird, they were black and sooty but had very white areas where the spark was arking, probably due to poor contact?

tonight I will do a self diagnostic check to see if it comes up with anything.

Any help?

There is a mode II diagnostics too you know. This checks out the O2 sensors to tell you if they are running rich or lean.

ok, i would say: (assuming no faults stored & all basics good, plugs etc)

1) clean throttle bodies, idle control valve, clean,check/reset TPS & reset ECU

2) clean all electrical connectors to PTU, engine temp sensor, MAF, coil packs & injectors

3) boost leak check, ensure there are no air leaks

4) replace injector connectors, temp sensor & connector

Thanks guys I'll get busy, the injector connectors were replaced and so was the temperature sender during the engine refit, so I dont think its those, I didnt know about the mode 11 so I'l try this and work my way though Pauls list, thanks a lot
