Done an oil change today and the tapping that has come from nowhere yesterday is stiill the same, think now it is time to change the lifters. Anyone know of the best place to get them from and what kind of price im looking at for them, or even if you think the problem is somethink else cant handle a noisey engine for the summer!! :headvswal

it is more of a tap than a clicking, more of a mettallic noise but not to sure what the injectors would sound like if they were noisey, what is the remedy for the injectors?

I always thought I had noisy lifters, then found out that they were the injectors someone who worked frequently on zeds told me.

I can tell the difference now.

On a cold morning startup for the first 3 seconds or so you will hear a tap tap tap tap and this will quickly fade out when the oil gets round. Hope this makes sense?

Had the same probs mate running fine then one morning the tapping started, buy the sound it was def a lifter, sounded like a ****ed out fiesta :headvswal

the best place to go to is courtesynissan or speak to baggins, dont get them over here they are over 30quid each

I know this might bring a lot of comments but if a lifter gets blocked/gooed up it will tap, and a good can of engine flush can help. Dont forget to refil with good oil afterwards and take it easy with it in. I have used it many times and it can work wonders. Keeping head down just in case.

Mark thats a fair comment but if your lifters have failed either by not being able to maintain pressure or maintaing to much pressure I am not sure it will help , the other thing to bare in mind is that lifters wear on the top face where the cam lobe makes contact , if thats the case then no amount of engine flush will sort it.

If your lifters are noisy for the first 5-10 secs its usually not a problem any longer than that then they will definately need to be changed

I agree, but did he not say that the noise started all of a sudden? If so they would not have worn over night. I know a can of cleaner is not the best solution perhaps, but its cheap and it can work. Just thought it worth a try.

While I am talkiing to you Ryan, I looked under my Z and the sump looks easy to remove so will be doing that as soon as I have finished helping my son with his S13. Where is the best place for big end bearings when I know the spec? Thanks

yea sumps not that hard to remove but you do need an engine crane to hold the engine up whilst your drop the subframe otherwise its not coming out , I carry grade 0,1,2,3 in stock if you need them
