This kit is NOT for on-road use. It is intended to be a clean solution for removing the EGR system on race-built, race-tuned engines.

I guess there are legal reasons that they have to put this on. But can someone tell me the down sides to removing the EGR system ?

I guess it's like many aftermarket items in the US Stu, stricter emmision laws mean they tend to put the words "off road use only" on many products, in some cases even filters... other than that i know of no downsides, my own is done and i know of nowt wrong.

smithy

would not be allowed on newer engines even here in the UK because of emissions regulations as smithy said. our cars are old enough to not worry about.

EGR reduces NOx formation by:

(a) reducing peak combustion temperatures due to the thermal capacity of burned gasses being higher than that of air and

(b) reducing the quantity of nitrogen and oxygenavailable to produce nitrogen oxide in the conbustion chamber

I basically takes exhaust gases and puts it back in to the cylinder to burn it again to cut the emissions and drop the temperature.

So you may stuggle to pass emissions test afterwards, and apparently there is more chance of detonation.

There is a lot about this on the US forums

does it make the car go faster?

does it make the car go faster?

it is an engine out job to fix if it goes wrong so people just remove it out of precaution.
