Dump Valves/Blow Off Valves

Hey all

Are they the same? does anyone have these? where do they fit on?

thanks all!!

I had a couple of HKS Super SQV dump valves fitted, courtesy of GPS/Hiteq.

Absolutely love them!

A bit dear but I suppose you get what you pay for in the end of the day. Same with most things.

do you know where they were fitted to? i was supplied two bailey dump valves (pretty shit) by demon tweeks (before i knew of Grasshopper) and they had to be cut in to the intake pipes. where are yours? i dont think mine is right thats why.

Thanks

Latz I got Blitz dump valves of Johnny Boy.

They come with there own hard pipe kit.

Where can I find Blitz? I've looked everywhere. They dont do them any more.

Can anyone enlighten me as to the benefit you get from these when you've already got re-circ valves?

Apart from a hissing sound off boost and about 3-400 squid less in the bank??? wink.gif

Sometimes this forum is like the magic round-a-bout, the same debates just keep coming round as regular as clockwork...LMFAO biggrin.gif

Yes - the car sounds like it is sneezing at every gear change. An absolute must, apparently.... biggrin.gif

One thing NOT going on my Zed... biggrin.gif

Me neither girlie wink.gif

I had some guy coming up behind me in an RS Turbo just so I could hear is psssttttt...shhhhhhhh...pssssstttttt....ssshhhhhhh!!!

I just thought "What a Leo!" biggrin.gif

I had some arse following me through Harlow yesterday and he very obviously had green headlights. It was an Escort I think and I'd guess he must've been to the'stick-on shite' department in Harry's or somewhere. They were REALLY green, almost like traffic lights - now that has to be illegal !!!

I used to have a D/V (BOV whatever you want to call 'em) on my Ren 5 GTT.. marked reduction in turbo lag on gearchanges (*very* bad lag running large boost on a small engine)

But.. no recirc valve on that.. On a Zed, highly debatable, but IMHO, no benefit whatsoever over the recircs until you are flowing *monster* amounts of air and the recircs can't cope.. (i.e. you're in the >650bhp range)

I concurr, and there's only one Z that I know of in the UK running that sort of BHP output...Andy whats-his-names at SE...where all the work has been done at SE by the way, sorry forgot to mention that! LMAO biggrin.gif

That'll be the one that blew a rear tyre at 150mph on the RR in Colchester !!!

Bet the Persil was needed that day ... biggrin.gif

So you won't take the piss outta me boy racer tax disc holder from Harrys then Mr. P?? ROFL biggrin.gif

Johnny's got one on his car!

One of the trendy annodised alu ones I expect (in red?), that looks like an aircraft filler cap ...

Mine is stick on plastic (Mobil-1) to save weight biggrin.gif

Ahhh, why do I listen to the pixie woman? LOL

It is, but in blue, she wouldn't let me get red...she said it was more like pink! biggrin.gif

I can see it now, shopping hand-in-hand on a Saturday afternoon, buying stuff for your baby !! biggrin.gif

LMAO biggrin.gif

Hey mate, last weekend that was about as far as I could stretch to...a 15 squid tax disc holder! biggrin.gif

Filled up with jank at Tesco with you, then had to fill up again at Abergele Shell with Optimax about...errrr...60/70 miles from home! wink.gif

Bloody things don't half munch jank at an alarming rate compared to an n/a car!!!

And that wasn't even booting it at anytime on the way home either, never exceeded 4K rpm in acceleration or 3K at cruising speed...LMAO biggrin.gif

These things are cruising at around a ton at 3K rpm...excellent!

Like recircs they save the compressor from stallings when the throttle butterflies are closed during gearchanges.

As always debatable at what point you need them, there actually is a lot to be said for the fact that when they dump the air (blow off valves) the engine is momentarily rich when you get back on the throttle.. which helps cool down some extremely hot internals.

I think that any upgraded turbos should have BOV's. The only recircs I've pulled off a car (when some shop installed BOV's without removing the recircs) were encrusted with oil.. I doubt they even worked, they had this sludgy crap in them from the stuffed turbos, and they're a bit on the small side.

If recircs were the 8th wonder of the world WRC cars etc would use them but they don't. I think they're just in there for road car manners. Not everyone likes the kappssshhh every gearchange... or the kssh..kssh..kssh..ksshh.......kssk........ going round a big sweeper on the limit.

There's a lot of custom made bovs that probably work just as well as the brand name jobbies, but are a lot cheaper. I can get a couple made up for like 250 slides.

The trick is to get them adjusted to the right point so you're not hearing excessive fluttering. (which causes air surges)

I could be wrong...but I dont think WRC cars use dump to air valves, the noise when changing gear sounds more like the wastegate actuating with a ultra free flow air intake, then the anti lag takes over the noises. Because the anti-lag keeps the turbo from stalling etc. Im looking into it a bit more though. Dont forget, someone said that dump-to-air valves would only be use one a 650+bhp monster, whereas WRC are limited to 300bhp, granted take the airflow restrictor off and they would be easily 600+bhp, but the restrictor is there and not sure they employ dump-to-air. Unless anyone can prove me wrong, in which case I apologise, as I said, these are my own opinions and may be wrong.

Ay -I believe you are correct, WRC cars have no dumpvalve, the noises are all wastegate chatter and anti lag pops and bangs..
