Morning,

Just wanted to know if I can network a pc and a laptop by USB cable at all or does it have to be done by an RG45 cable?

Cheers

I think there are USB kits around but to be honest you may as well go wireless if you don't mind spending a little extra

I paid £80 not long ago for a wireless router/hub and wireless PCMCIA card

Vijay, if you don't want to go the wireless route there is a fair bit of info here

i don't think it can be done propely just using a normal usb cable m8

as Jaffa says the pcmcia and wireless router works very well

i did this option for my sons laptop and pc, and he also has his xbox plugged in

to work online, and it was a doddle to set up, and his laptop has worked anywhere in the house with no problem

these are the ones i went for

2 x cheap LAN cards about £5.00 each

1 x CAT5e UTP X-over cable , make one up or PC-world.

XP will auto configure your network "TCP/IP", or if your not planning on routing "Netbui" will work well ,but XP no longer provides native support. What OS are you running on both PCs?

Vijay,

You can use one of these USB link cables but they are a bit short and really meant for just copying stuff between PC's when you need to move some files.

I have one and it would do the job if the PC's are close.

The best option as has been said is a wireless router and network cards but will cost you a bit more. Usually around £80 for a router and £20 for the cards.

Everything is coming with wireless built in now so you can connect PC's, Games Consoles, PDA's, Phones etc to the internet and share files.
