Hi All

I just picked up a complete pcv kit (valves and pipes) here in the USA, and the pcv valves, while they are obviously the right part (I checked the diagram on the Concept Z website) are different looking to what I was expecting. My car has 2 rather ugly plastic valves which are falling appart and sit just above the boost hoses by the throttle bodies. I need these two as well as they literally fall in half when you touch them. What are these? When you open them up they have a diaphragm inside and have a hose either side. Obivously my car is in the UK so I can't give any more detail than that...

Cheers

That doesnt sound like PCV valves you have there, the PCV kit should consist of 5 hoses and two metal valves. Have no idea what you are describing ??

Yeah sorry the posting wasn't clear. I have 5 hoses and 2 metal valves threaded on one end in the kit - they are definitely the pcv valves in the diagram on the courtesy website. But on my car I have 2 plastic valves, much bigger, with a diaphragm in them, one each side of the engine, just above the throttle body hoses. When one fell appart as I was removing the boost hoses, I could see a rubber flap inside, full of oily residue... Does anyone know what these are?

Sounds to me like you have the good ole turbo technics breather set up on your car, i imagine fitted by the previous owner. Does it have a black rubber pipe running from the back of the throttle body to this diaphram which looks like a float and then another rubber tube coming out the other end of it going to back of plenum area ? a pic would confirm.

Smithy - yes exactly, that's it! Like two bulbous plastic 'floats', except one of them keeps spewing its guts out if you put any tension on the hose. Sorry I don't have a picture - I'm in Orlando til Sunday and I got some parts delivered to the hotel, a pcv kit. What can I do with them then? Get replacements or get rid of them altogether?

PS I also have a water temp gauge coming. Do you need the boss to be supplied for fitting in one of your hardpipe kits, or can you just weld in an 1/8 NPT boss?

Cheers

The only place that stocks these spare parts without knowing their correct term, is turbo technics am afraid. Other than that you can put it back to stock and if you got the 5 piece hose set with yer pvc's then 2 of them at least will replace that set up you have, it's been a long time since i seen one fitted so you would have to just look at another Zed to compare which couple of hoses it by-passes, assuming you bin it of course.

These kits caused quite some controvesry here some years ago when TT launched them in a bid to cure smoking, for those that worked there was just as many that didn't, so in short either get a replacement float from TT or do away with the lot in favour of all new pvc hoses and valves.

Top rad pipe with boss is no probs, all i prefer to have is the brass boss that comes with yer temp gauge, that way it's 100% correct when done.

Right ok. I got the whole 5 hose kit and new pcv's so I think I'll bin the TT setup and go back to stock setup. The car has had an iffy idle for some time so I'm hoping this might help (having done all the other stuff, tb's etc).

When I get my gauge I'll get in touch and send you up the mounting boss to weld into the rad pipes. What turn around time do you need on the rad pipe kit?

Cheers

Hi Derek,

Defo get rid of that Turbo Technics breather kit, it caused oil starvation IIRC.

Right, that's enough for me then, they're coming off tomorrow!!! :nono:

Is the full pcv kit (5 hoses and valves) enough to replace the whole thing?

Got some splicing to do tomorrow too. All the injector and coil connectors.

Ok, back home now and had a look at the turbo technics breather kit on my car. It has a tee-piece at the back of the driver's side plenum, and bloody hoses going everywhere. Is it straghtforward to remove it with the full 5 hose pcv kit? Or do they remove anything else that I will need to buy to put it back to standard?

Thanks,

Derek

Ok disregard all after 'Ok, back home now...' Had a look with a torch and a mirror, I can now see where the breather kit bypasses it. It's coming off!
