Buy the Best set of Premium Make tyres you can get. Its your only contact with mother earth. You are lost without contact.

(and probably heading sideways into oblivion!)

Buy a different car!

Failing that:

Poly bush everything, lots of the old bushes get soft. You can now get a complete rear arm set too (Try ZCentre). Especially important are the rear subframe mounts and front lower arm ones.

Rose jointed front arms help alot. I prefer mine adjusted a little shorter than the stock ones to put a bit more castor on and load up the steering.

Remove the HICAS.

If you have a speedo converter junk it and fit UK clocks.

I've got a plate diff on mine, its a matter of taste, but certainly helps with traction out of bends.

Shocks and springs obviously make a big difference. Going to get uprated anti roll bars soon to try too.

If it's lowered, replace the front upper arms with adjustable, and get the camber set. The stock ones are usually quite worn anyway, so worth replacing.

One of the biggest things is just get all the geometry set up properly once it's all done

John, presumably fit UK clocks instead of a speed convertor only if you dont remove HICAS ?

iv just fitted KYB adjustable shocks, Eibachs, upper & lower front adjustable arms with bearings & rose joints instaed of bushes. it has made a huge difference :)

No, it's worth doing anyway. The steering is way too light with converters. It's speed dependant and the steering ECU receives a signal from the speedo cluster to make it think the car is travelling slower than it actually is.

You can get them all from my ZXR site under suspension :)

I would also say getting the skyline brake upgrade makes a massive improvement, to your own confidence in driving the car! I remember hitting the brakes before this mod and praying to the lord god almighty for the car to stop!

Also a good rear strut bar is meant to make a big difference.

John

I didn't realise my converted jap clocks would be causing this problem but what you say makes a lot of sense.

Is there any other solution as I have '99 clocks?

Any idea how big a job (ie how expensive) it is to convery to UK clocks?

Cheers

Tim

I've got an S2 so I just got a set of S2 UK clocks, they plug straight in.

Think 99 are probably the same, but wouldn't swear to it.

Hard to get 2nd hand, I think new is about £300

Balls - I thought my 300 was pretty much ok and now find out the power steering is not working like it should.

How much difference will this make?

I might just try and find the converter (no idea where / what it is!) and remove it and run in KPH if that sorts the steering.

Anyway, thanks for the advice John - you clearly know the 300!

UK clocks just plug straight in, no problem at all :D mine did

I have a series 3, and like a '99 model, this has the electric HICAS. Did any UK model have the electric HICAS fitted? (I thought all the UK models were fitted with hydraulic HICAS).

I am not sure the UK clocks would be compatible, if your model has electric HICAS, but would appreciate knowing more.

Thanks, Geoff
