Been thinking about buying some parts from the states, well Z1 to be more specific. The items I were thinking of were

Eibach Springs $245

KYB Adj Shocks $395

Midori Style Camber correction $395

Z1 Big brake kit $750

Total $1785

Carriage $403

With the pound being strong, does this seem a good buy, especially when all the Taxes get added? I was trying to avoid spending much on the Z just for now, but need the Camber correction, but then think, well while ordering that would be nice etc etc.

Is it worth buying while the the dollar is low.

Thanks

Barry

Yeh i use these they are very good.I got a full 60k service kit with unorhadox racing lightened underdrive pulley and belts delivered within a week.

I think it came to about £320.inc

shipping stuff from the states will still cost a bundle even if the pound is strong due to duty taxes etc. think it was talked about on a previous thread. i spent months trying to work out a way of getting a pair of turntables from the states without getting shafted by customs. only way was one in each suitcase and fingers crossed!

i cant remember exactly but its a percentage of the goods value if the goods are over a certain price. then you got vat on top of duty.

bugger. :(

Not to sure, but i swear i read an article few weeks back that the goverment will be allowing upto £1000 worth of goods in duty free from the USA,seems its never got round to increasing it over the years from its very low amount thats in place, anyone else come across this news.

Tony :)

the last couple of things Ive bought in from america including courtesy, have not cost me any duty or tax so sounds like Tonyc is right.

Hi! It's £145 duty limit on personal items, but a few people will provide a 'doctored' invoice if you ask them nicely... ;-) Also some outlets don't include an invoice with the shipment anyway, just a picking list, so nothing to give away the value of the goods. They email you the invoice. I've brought back bits like dump valves and boost controllers like this. Anything over £145 and you pay duty AND VAT on the whole amount, not just the excess.

Just recieved a $240 order - £34 duty bill  ****ing shitty country  If you wanna laugh, work out the percentages on that :(

thats unlucky buddy. sometimes you can get away with it. in fact a lot of US shops are in the know about this problem and can 'gift' wrap the item for you.

a 'gift/present' (obviously without invoice) does not qualify for import duty or vat ;)

I take it all back Ive just got two fooking bills totalling £60  :headvswal

I order stuff from the US from time to time. The customs/tax bill is approx 22-24% of the insured value. I ordered a load of stuff weighing in @ 55lbs costing £4000, got the sender to insure the box for $20, crossed my fingers and waited. (I lost a lot of sleep on this one incase it got lost) When the box arrived there was only £7 customs clearence to pay no VAT.

Last week I ordered a clutch costing $440. It arrived the other day along with a combined customs/TAX bill of £70 because the sender insured it for the full price.

You can under insure items and will get away with high TAX charges, only snag if they get damaged or lost then your stuffed.

I have orderd and recieved many small single items valued under £300 and not paid any charges whatsoever.

Just think what your ordering and do your homework first, you may be supprised
