Hi All...

Just had a new cobra alarm fitted this week, and am now thinking of a Greddy turbo timer and harness... But will the immobiliser cut the engine after I have removed the key from the ignition and locked it and walked away? Cos it uses fuel and ignition cuts, and it auto arms anyway after about a minute with the key out.

hello, ive got a cobra alarm fitted to my Z with a blitz turbo timer. now you can take the key out the ignition and lock the car on the key and the timer will still count down till it turns off the engine, after 1 min off the engine being off the immobiliser will cut in but it wont set the alarm. if you want to set the alarm you have to wait till the timer turns off the engine then you blip you key thob and set the alarm.

hows that make sence. ???

Ah right I'm with you... So the immobiliser sets some time after the engine stops, not when the key is removed. That's ok then. It didn't have an alarm for the last few years, just an immobiliser so it won't be much different. At least it'll stop the girlfriend burning my ears while I'm sitting there for 3 minutes at idle contemplating life. ;-)

ha ha, sounds about right to me.

I had a Cobra fitted as part of my insurance requirements for Thachem cat1. The guy who fitted it said that he couldn't fit it or certify it with the HKS turbo timer turned on as it would effect the immobiliser  . I've not tried leaving the timer turned on since to be honest, but will give it a go. I just sit n listen to the engine note n ignore the missus anyway

I can alarm mine with the engine running... get some right funny looks when you walk away from it lol

i got a Toad alarm and an ApexI timer. Can leave the car counting down but it wont activate the alarm/central locking (not really a problem for me tho as i stay in or near the car during countdown anyways). immobiliser kicks in 'x' seconds after engine cut out.

im having probs with same situation, i have a toad ai606 alarm and immobiliser with razo turbo timer, i ahve to sit in the car while count down as the push button release for the key will not let me take the keys put, is there a way round this?

There is away round it with the Toad alarms and brobably with the others, it will invalidate the Cat1 status though. Personally i won`t leave my car running while i walk away, locked up or not!. Prefer to take it easy for the last mile or so and let it cool down on its own.

Can you understand wiring diagrams and relays? If you do i will scan a wiring diagram in and send it down to you. You will need a wiring diagram for the alarm aswell. If you`re not competent at Auto Electrics i wouldn`t advise you have ago.
