Guest Timmy_Turbo Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 Reading an article in Redline last night. VOSA units in some, already authorised, counties will now be able to stop car drivers for speeding offences etc. Also they have stated that they will be targeting modified car drivers! Up until now VOSA have only been concerned with HGV and LGV drivers setting up check points for lorry road worthiness inspections and checking driving times. But now in certain areas they will have the equivalent of Rozzer powers to stop car drivers and carry out MOT checks. Article also said that if they try to flag you down for speeding and you ignore them and do one they can radio your registration to the proper cops who will then trace you and come knocking on your door. :( Even if you don't wanna buy Redline just pop into Tesco or whatever and read the short article about what they've said about modified cars...t0ssers!!! demus Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 thats all we need, they are really tight with HGV's and LGV's, dragging them off to whiegh bridges an giving the whole vehicle a good checking over. imagine what they are going to be like with cars :nono: Quote
SRRAE Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 I really doubt the police will come knocking on your door if you dont stop for these none police people. It took police 8 hours to go to a house where a man had been murdered a few days ago. Plus they can not do anything besides look for your MOT cert. They tried to do on the spot emissions checks and fine people who's car was over the legal requirement but none of the held up. When it went to court the defence stated that that there is no way a person can check the emissions themselves unless they have a devise which costs thousands to check it. With lorries they can check an awful lot. they are not meant to go over certain speeds, they are not allowed to travel so long without a rest, they are not allowed to go over certain weights. Personally I think its just scare tactics. However if I ever do get pulled over while driving normally, I would get the vid camera out and film them around the car, and warn them if they make a mark on the car, they will be getting a bill for the repairs. ;) Quote
Guest Timmy_Turbo Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 Stu you're missing the point. They WILL have the powers to issue fixed penalty fines and points etc. for speeding and related motoring offences. They will also be carrying proper emissions testers in their vans amongst other gadgetry and even if the police don't come knocking on your door they will no doubt issue a NIP through the post! Quote
KennyZ Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 Amazing insn't it, not content with the failure of congestion charging , speed cameras, toll roads, and increasing restricted parking areas and fuel cost hikes to force the motorist off the road, now they attempt to use MOT laws to harrass law abiding folks by interrupting there lawful persuits and travel along the highway. Not content with the revenue from road tax and fuel duty ,parking and speeding fines, this is just another attempt by the government to infringe our civil liberties and raise more lucre for there coffers. Hypocrites, happy to encourage the use of cars on one hand but then stab us in the back when weve got one. Blimey Dick Turpin must have been an angel by comparison. Quote

Just watch your speed then. They can do essissions test but they can only tell you to get it looked it. They tried to fine people who's car failed the emissions test, and not 1 person who went to court lost. Quote

These are new powers being given to them NOT what they have been able to try and do in the past. Quote
Guest x-biker Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 You'd probably get less points and a smaller fine for running them over and killing them!! :nana2: :smash:  :wack:  Quote

Basically emissions is an MOT issue, and your MOT is only really valid on the day it was issued..... (tyres can be OK on the day of issue, and anytime later can be bald, same as emissions, and other road worthiness issues...) You would think they would issue a 14 day fixit ticket, maybe still a pain in the bum, but look at it on the other side..... Spose some git crashed into your beloved Zed, and it was found his car was a total pile of MOT failing shite.... (maybe he crashed cos his metal to metal brake pads couldnt stop his bald tyres sliding across the road into the side of you!) maybe, just maybe these pretend police might get cars like that off the road?? just a thought. also, dont forget, if the goverment has it's way we are POSSIBLY all gonna get either priced off the road eventually, or bored off it!! so one oway or another the miserable to$$ers will have us all. gits On a side note, did anyone else see something on TV then other day, aboiut the mobile speed cameras? I never seen them up close before, look a lot like a normal radar gun, but with a good quality camera too..... double gits Quote

They are regually on the East Lancashire Road, just off the M6 on the way to Manchester. What looks like a white transit van with vents in it. They just park up and get you going past. However, they block off the Layby to do it, I am sure they are not allowed to do that.. Quote
Guest Goit Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 Here in Wiltshire, they have a speed camera mounted on a police bike, just so that you cant slow down, even if you do suspect a white van >:( Quote
