Hi All

Don’t suppose any of you guys know where I can get my hands on a 99/00 Type R Z? Searched the net many of times and contacted lots of Importers but No joy! In fact I’ve never even seen one. I’ve got a sweet 91 TT which I’ve had for years now, was the car I always wanted! Just want one a bit newer now. ‘W’ reg would be nice!!! Test Drove a new 350 but wasn’t impressed to be honest, and there ain’t nothing else I really fancy. Do I really have to go to Japan and steel one? Any Idea of what one of these illusive breeds would cost? Thanks,

Andy

very few Zeds were actually produced and sold in the 1999/2000 period. I thought I had seen the production numbers somewhere, will keep my eye out for them.

There are some about. I saw one on the Japanese Ebay.

It was going for about £10,000

Hi Andy,

I have actually looked into importing a Version R about two years ago. It is possible but you need to be very patient. These late model cars don't come up for sale very often and even less at auctions. I have been reliably told by a colleague in Tokyo that Zeds are getting rarer (must be because they're all coming over to the UK). This is pushing up the prices in Japan, in particular late models and heavily modified ones. Two years ago I was quoted £19,000 ~ £24,000 imported and on the road in the UK for '99 "R". To be honest, you're better off buying a far more reasonably priced '96 twin turbo and modding it to the same level as a version "R". I've recently had the pleasure of working on a very nice T-reg Zed which cost the guy somewhere in the region of £8k to get it into the UK and onto the road.

Good luck!

Dan

Cheers for that guys, although I cant view the links at the moment, have to install certain xp files, cant find my disk at the moment. doh! If I do manage to aquire a type R I'll post some pics up.

I am a bit reluctant to tell you all of this as I use the site solely as a Mk4 300zx owner, who is upgrading his car, but as I have imported large numbers of cars from Japan in the past I thought I should give you some guidance and information so that you dont waste too much time.

I have access to all of the Japanese auctions. I have just checked the recent sales for you. There have only been a couple of 99 models sold in the last couple of weeks, all have had very low mileage (below 30,000km) and have sold for over 2,000,000 yen.

Therefore when you add Japanese port transport and fees, shipping, UK port fees, 10% duty and 17.5% VAT. The typical 99 model will cost you almost £15,000 to the door.

But even if you get it to your door you will find you cannot register it as it needs a ESVA, in order to do this you would need a model report. As there is no model report for the 300zx it therefore follows that it will not pass ESVA.

Thats why I got myself a late 1994 model, when its over 10 years old it does not need ESVA.

Hope this helps///

I asume that the ESVA is something new? is it an extesnsion of the old SVA? sure my current Z was only 8 years old when it came into the country? must be a loophole somewhere!!!

Ther used to be a loophole that was closed last year, where you could register the vehicle as for someone who was disabled, the loophole has now been closed. SVA (no model report required)applies for vehicles prior to 1997 unless over 10 years old, ESVA (model report required) to vehicle from 1997 onwards. Hope this helps...

Tim,
