Whilst its all taken apart, (rad out, coolant hoses + water pump off) should I flush the engine through with fresh water (from a hose pipe) the clear out all the rust and gunk and other crud thats in there?

If you can do it safely without the crud getting where it shouldnt, you could think about backflushing it... (IE flushing in the opposite direction of the water flow)

You might find that the crud "is used to" being harrased by water in a certain direction, but come at it from another angle, and you're bound to get some more loose....

Just be careful the crap doesnt go where it will cause damage... (make sure you plug though sort of holes)
