Is Optimax working? maybe it is!!!

hey guys, after 2 fill ups of optimax I was wondering if any improvement would actually kick in.

Well since I started using Optimax I noticed a better fuel-economy-consumption, I haven't got figures of pounds/litrs, but it is using a little bit less petrol than usual which will surely compensate for the higher cost of the petrol itself.

But that was it...was it?

NO maybe there is more!!

Well since yesterday morning my car 300ZXTT Manual 90'.... started to drive better at low speed, you know local driving in 1st 2nd and 3rd gear, short acceleratinos etcs...it just feels a little bit smoother/slightly quicker I would say...

So it could be that the optimax has started to take effect... maybe it started cleaning the dirt located where the optimax goes through...etc..

Well unless my car is experiencing the LAST BREATH BEFORE DEATH....(I hope not)....it looks like Optimax is working!!!

Call me a skeptic but virtually all fuels claim to have some sort of detergents to clean the crap from the pistons/valves/injectors/kettle etc. Maybe your performance gains are due to the colder mornings of late.

Also, Optimax is significantly more expensive than normal unleaded, so I doubt that you will save any money. However, I am monitoring it closely in my car and I will decide after about a months worth.

But Andy, you don't run your car on normal (95) RON UL do you!?

Round here Optimax is perhaps 1p more expensive than Super UL... Quite possibly the same price... (79.8p) Can't quite recall from the last time I filled up..

Stage: Rather Ill

Optimax is .5p cheaper than SuperUL at my local Shell garage, so I'm onto a winner!

I think there has been an imporvment in performance and general ride of the car, but maybe I want it to be better!

I'm doing the same as AndyP, giving it a month and see if thereisa major difference but for now it seems to be.

Bounce...Bounce...Bounce...Bounce...Bounce...Bounce...Bounce... (sorry no sound!) LOL

Round here Optimax is 79.9 and Super is 83.9. However normal unleaded is 71.9

Have you lot heard of ISPYPETROL.com

You type om your post code the fuel you require and they e-mail you every week with the cheapest petrol in your area.

Stuart

Stuart,

Thanks for that!

79.8p young man for Optimax??? My god, I pay about 86.9p...petrol prices should be on a flat scale in this country. You probably get it cheaper...ohhh eerrrrr...because where you are they sell more of it. In de Wales...Aiii...I haven't seen any yet, so only place I've managed to get it...ohhh errrr...is at Corley Services just before Brum on de M6!!!

Always use normal UL, nearly always have done. Tried Super for a while and it made naff all difference.

UL is about 74.9 here, Super has got cheaper recently and is now about 79.9, Opti is 80.9 and I always use ISpyPetrol to get the cheapest - "it's not the principle, it's the money" - Tommy Cooper.

we don't even have optimax here

Yeah, but what you do have is good stuff anyway, and it's bloody cheap matey! Think yerself lucky! wink.gif

75 percent of our petrol price is tax!!!

Do 2 rons make a difference?

Can't even find a shell garage 'round here

Superplus is well expensive, like 91p in some places but 85ish at others (even though same company BP) conning 'uckers...

Just been on ISPY.COM - and they quote:

'WOW! the price of Super Unleaded Petrol varies by up to 13.4p per litre in the Plymouth Postal Area, which means that YOU could save £8.04 when you next fill up. For the average person that's an annual saving of £261.08'.

Hmmm, debateable I suppose, but if you're running an import I would say "yes" to that question about old RON!

Skylarks are designed for 99/100 octane fuel coz that's what they use in Jap. Land. Higher octane fuel is probably better for a Turbo car aswell, maybe not so important for a N/A.

My Saab and my Supra user manuals recommended using Super if it was available, I'm pretty sure the Z user manual does aswell but obviously it's down to personal choice. Not going to knacker yer engine just coz you wanna use normal unleaded fuel.

There is a sticker on my petrol cap that says use RON 95

Seems to work for me although only filled up about 5 times with it. Gradually semmed to get better as time went on.

Tim

Found super for just under 4p more than normal unleaded in area - is it worth extra money?

There's a sticker in my petrol cap that says something-100RON....

Cheers Guyz,

Just checked out that web, and the Shell station near me is the cheapest for SUL@79.9p

and UL is 74.9p.

Exactly Az matey! I do believe yours is an Import which adds further conviction to thy tale above from Moir!!! wink.gif

You could retard the ignition a fraction if you're worried, but if it don't det. then why worry ? Mines fine.

Yep Andy is right, shouldn't be a worry with Imports...provided you're not running a MINES Satan ECU!!!! LOL!

They are specifically setup to run with 100 RON fuelling, ask WaZZa, he knows all about this subject...don't ya mate? LOL biggrin.gif

300ti3.jpg

How do you spot detonation... other than the car going into safety boost? Is detonation also known as pinking when the engine's under load?

Some say it sounds like nuts and bolts in a baked bean can being waved about! I have not tried this Detonation/Pinking reconstruction as yet. LMAO biggrin.gif

However, if you want to test to see if you're getting it. Drive up a nice steep hill real slow then floor it, listen carefully with window down for what can only be described as the same sound effect they used on the Million Dollar Man/Woman when they were running or jumping...spot on!!! LOL! wink.gif

Cool, no need to break the bank on Super just yet, then smile.gif Thanks

that's probably true smile.gif

Anyways what you guys think about racing fuel? is it safe to run in the Z? smile.gif

there's a few petrol stations here that sells them, I really don't know anything about it, I figure I'll jus stick 5bottles of octane booster in my tank lol

That's what most people do here, fill up with Super Unleaded then add Octane booster for that little bit extra wink.gif
