Ive not had my ZX for long but already Ive noticed I get tailgated far more often that in my previous (modest) car. I also get overtaken inappropriately more often too.

I guess some of this is curiosity from ppl wanting to get a closer look at a rare car, but its pretty unnerving. Maybe the driver behind sees Twin Turbo on the back and wants to see if his car (a BMW more often than not) will keep up, though I dont drive all that fast, honest.

Any thoughts from you older and wiser Z owners?

I'd noticed the tailgating more myself......but...and ignore me if this sounds stupid.....but the rear window curves towards the bottom, and I think it gives the impression that the car behind is closer than it actually is.

but from past experience, when driving a performance car you do get a lot more people trying it on.

its usually saxo's and Corsa's..

its so in there little small minds they can see you thrash away and get all excited!! :nono:

i just get scoobys tailgating but i havnt been beaten yet if they try and take over id rather do banger racing than get beat

ask legarth :D

Yeah corsas and saxos too lol. Obviously their 1.1 engine will smoke my ZX coz they have a body kit fitted....

Beware of anyone driving while wearing an item of headgear - flat cap, burberry on backwards etc etc etc

strange in my clio i get every twat up my arse on the motorway, cutting me up etc, but in the 300 they used to stay well clear. perhaps cos it was blue and everone knows the blue ones are the quickest

Hi

I don't have any trouble with tailgaiters on open national speed limit roads, dual carriageways or m-ways when driving the ZX. If I do, and it's safe to do so, I just blip the throttle and waste them.....

....no, I just get the b@stards on my tail when sticking to 30 in a 30

Never happens in my Rav-4 or Corsa, just the ZX - it's as if they think I have a fast car so I should drive fast all the time.

I usually ignore it. Spotty tossers in Paxos etc or the company BMW man who can't drive are not worth worrying about - rise above it or they will get you hurt if they cause an accident.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Incedentally, just before Xmas, I encountered the same daft little prick in a Paxo each day on my drive to work.

He had to pass everything in site on a single c'way A road, despite his car not being that fast. I had been using the Rav all week and at the same tight roundabout he would always cut me up using the left lane to go straight ahead (when it's clearly marked left turn only). In a 4x4 I couldn't always out manouver a Paxo, so the git usually managed it, then later when he wouldn't overtake a slower car he would move out preventing me from passing too.

However on the Friday I drove the ZX to work. Little b@stard tried to do the roundabout thing only to be handed his ass

To save face, he tried to follow me with every overtaking manouver - the fool. I approached an HGV waiting for a moment to overtake, when it was clear I indicated and moved out - textbook stuff - but didn't use full power. Like a fool he followed without waiting for me to complete the move, I just carried on accelerating slowly then I saw a car coming the other way. I just nailed it, safely passed the lorry and dissapeared into the distance. I heard the brief sounding of horns, looked in my mirror and saw he had ducked back behind the lorry and carried on my way.

Lesson - never drive blind, always make sure the road is clear for you ahead AND don't try to overtake like the ZX in front does. It's a real car....

Yeah, exactly the same with me, even the clio bit :) .

Gee thanks for caring guys! There's no shortage of nutters and retards out there trying to kill us on the roads.

Actually one of the main reasons I got a ZX was safer overtaking! Hardly a classic excuse for a car like the ZX but thats what I told the wife....

i think however that the main twatty drivers out there no longer drive bmw's. All nobbers on the road now appear to drive vw passat tdi's. Anyone else noticed this?

Well did that to a Volvo cope car today he cut me up on a round about ( good advanced motorin) Kept to the 40 & the 30 but did go past at the lights to turn right what a ****** he was but did not get a pull.

yeah i noticed a lot more TDi's try it on - they seem to think that their Turbo puts their car into the same class as ours ;)

i always get dickheads trying it on - Mundane'os, Clios, Passats, etc.

what are they thinking?????

yeh after red!!!

:xxx: And BLACK

So true, Scoops. Most companies now have these on their fleets, I guess. We do, hence I chose the cash instead of a car - although I would have been allowed a top spec Audi A4 TDi or BM 320TDi.

BM drivers are still mostly twats who think they own the road. Take my old boss, a 5 series driver. On a country lane he ignored the passing bay to his left, just as another car was coming the other way, then when the other car wouldn't move he had to reverse back. Fine you'd think except he ignored the "reversing beep thingy" assuming it was detecting the hedge and reversed straight into another car :xxx:

He also drove into work one day with both mirrors folded in and didn't notice - proof that BM drivers never look in them :headvswal
