Hi, I am looking at the above oil for my Z as it seems to be the Oilmans choice. So what do others think after using it, and where is the best place to get it, and for how much? One Scooby forum did a group buy at 40 pounds for 6 liters, and I have seen it for 35 pounds for 5 liters. I have asked the Oilman for a price via email but have had no reply yet, (I did do it yesterday and I guess he's closed for w/end).

I currently run Mobile One 0/40. Only becasue I had it in the garage and thought I would try it but I dont like it, my engine is slightly noisier on Mobile One than before.

Any thoughts, views or comments?

Hi Mark

I'd have said Oilman too :(

Anyway, I've never liked Mobil-1 0w40. For some reason it seems too thin for any high performance car. Funny as Castrol RS 0w40 is fine, yet they are meant to be the same grade.

My Corsa also rattled when using Mobil-1 and that had only done 30k miles. I switched to Castrol (and last service, Halfords own 5w40 - it's only the wife's car now :x: ) and no more rattle......

I currently use a 5w40 in my ZX, Shell Helix Ultra, Texaco Halvoline, or the Esso one (Ultron IIRC). The car sounds fine - no rattles, perfect oil pressure even after high speed driving in 30 degree heat and no noticable oil consumption. (Z now covered 77k miles).

I recently bought the Texaco from a service station for £34 for 5 litres, for my latest service. Seemed good value compared to Shell or Mobil-1.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

why use a 0w oil in this country? its not like we live in the antarctic!!!

Thanks for that Richard, its sort of what I thought..... Paul and Scoops, if you notice my thread I had the oil so thought I would try it. I did not go out and and buy it specially.

Hi Mark

I see you live in Aylesbury....

....I work there and have seen 2 other Zs around. A black one with dark windows and yesterday, coming from Raban's Lane area towards the A41, a gunmetal grey one.

Either of them you mate?

LOL! 0W40 & 5W40 are the same viscosity when hot!! - (40!)

Heh heh, I know that, Paul - I just think Mobil-1 is crap compared to the others I mentioned.

I also tried it in my Supra and the engine sounded noisier, but when I switched to Casrtol RS 0w40 the rattle went away......

I don't understand it as they are the same grade but I do know I won't use Mobil-1 again :smash:

Hi Richard, no not me, mine is black but clear glass, lowered with 17 split rims. Do you driveyours to work? I have seen a yellow one on Stocklake? I did drive it yesterday but I dont llike the rattle, it goes very quickly as it warms up, a minute or two and its gone. You live local?

Hi Mark

I did yestarday, I usually drive it to work 2-3 times a week now. I used to drive it everyday but decided to keep the mileage low - 50 miles a day really piles it on. Besides I thought I'd get a 4x4 for the winter ;)

Mine's a red UK car with 17 inch Azevs and a 99 spec front bumper. I work on the new industrial estate opposite Cannons Gym - Griffin Lane/Faiford Leys area.

I'll keep a look out for you.

The black one with dark windows is mine. :)

I've seen the yellow one as well. Guy's working on the new fire station in Stocklake by the looks of it...

That sounds right, I did not know it was the new fire station. MetaHawk, did I see you at the Crowsnest when about 4-5 of us met, prob '03?

You sure did Mark. June 2003 - I was the one wearing his head upside-down.

But surely there were lots with their heads on upside down, but they were driving TVR's. LOL. I think I see you every so often in town but I am never in my Z when I do. I drive a new Polo, driving school; car, met grey with ABC on the roof. Maybe we can meet again when its warmer etc. Mark

Ordered the Silkolene Pro S 10w50 today. Oilman says its the best, and I need not change it for up to 9000 miles or one year. Makes the cost worth it, I dare say many people think this is too long though, but he should know............?

OK, got the oil from Oilman, came next day as promised, cant beat the service. £72.00 and some pence for 10 litres, posted.
