Hi guy's. Has anyone fitted a HID kit onto a UK car? If so where did you take the earth from and which colour wire did you use? White or black?

I just fitted my HID kit, to my UK car.....

I dont know what youmean really, but here's all I had to do.....

I removed the stock bulbs.

Fitted the new HID bulbs,

Tucked away the earth lead connected to the headlamp unit. (tucked it inthe headlamp unit)

Plugged in the 2 wires from the HID bulb to the transformer unit OUT connection

plugged inthe car wiring loom to the transformer unit IN connection

That was basically it....

I did use the extension cables that came with the kit, and had to connect a new bullet connector to it, as one of the cables on the original plug that connected to the original bulb had a bullet instead of a spade connector.....

Does that all make sense?

Hope that helps

No mate not really. On the silver box I have the outlet to the black box and 2 other wires coming off that must go onto the car. Which of these wires go where? Thats what i'm getting at. So you plugged one of the cables that came with the kit to the cars loom - which one and what did you do with the other one?

Ivan

Hi Ivan....

I just had a look at mine again.....

First off, is yours the kit supplied by Mark Baker at Overlander, mine was from him... so I can only advise on that kit..

All that came with mine, was the control unit, a set of extension wires and the bulb, (all x2 for left and right.....)

the stock bulb has 1 wire connected to it, and the headlamp unit had one wire also...

bulb wire went into the loom, connected with a spade connection (positive)

headlamp unit wire also went into the loom, connected with a bullet conector (earth)

All I did was to remove the bulb,

Tucked away the earth wire conected to the headlamp unit, (as not needed any more)

I then connected the CAR wiring loom connector to the connector that USED to be connected to the original bulb.

This has 1 spade and 1 bullet type connector on each wire

Next I connected the extension leads (red Positive, black Negative) to the bullet and spades of the original plug

This extension lead now plugs into the IN connector on the control unit.

Now the OUT cables simply plug into the 2 corresponding plugs on the HIDS. You cant go wrong with those 2, they'll only fit into the correct place...

So in effect, all I have done, is extended the original wiring loom by using the HID loom and transformer... and discarded the original earth connected to the headlamp unit...

I have attached a diagram, maybe that will help??

by the way...I managed to get my control units under the centre section, tucked in by the standard airbox,

Hmmm cheers mate. My kit sounds a bit different to yours. I dont know where it came from as I got it for xmas. It says Bohmen on the box. I used trial and error to establish that the white wire was for the live and the black was earth and I used the radiator brackets for the earth. They seem to work so thanks for all your help matey.

No worries Ivan, Least you got it going....

Tell me, when you turn them on, do they flicker for a brief moment (a second or so) and then dim a little?

Mine do... they are still very much brighter than stock bulbs, just confused me a bit when they dimmed.

I thought it might be normal as the gas must kinda explode within the bulb, and then settle down a bit??

Cheers bud

Yes mate. All HID type lights do it (at least all the Dosco 3's and Range Rovers we have in do). Not been on the road yet in the beast but will be going out in her in the dark on wednesday so will see how bright they are then.
