Hi all

I've just fitted the HID conversion from Outlander (Excellent piece of kit) to my UK car.

This of course has the "dim dip" where headlights come on very dim when sidelights are on with the engine running. As the HID kit requires full power to run, when the sidelights only are switched on they flicker like a flourescent light when the starter has blown!!

Of course I need to disable the dim-dip thingy so how do I do it?

Is there a relay I can simply remove??

Cheers people

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Looking at pages EL 46 & 47 of the Service Manual, it seems that it'll still work normally if you pull or dissconect the 'Dim-Dip Lamp Control Unit'. Looks to me that the headlamps will still work as they should.

Hi Richard,

Fitted a hid kit to a uk spec 300zx about 4 years ago.I had to isolate the dim dip cct and also bridge across the cct with elec links for the correct supply to the hid.Have a word with the supplier regarding the dim dip and if the problem is still there after the 17th jan then give me a ring and i'll work out the wiring to cure the dim dip.

Hmmm seems strange Richard. On my UK car when the sidelights are on only the ones in the bumper come on?????

Hi Paul,

It's a 1991. Dim dip worked with the original headlight set-up.

However, I think the problem has cured itself........

I discovered that when only one bulb is connected (either HID or regular) the dim-dip doesn't operate. As one of the HID bulbs was broken (problem now sorted thanks to "Oneday" - cheers Mark) I left the original H3 in place - hence the problem.

Now that I've got the HID system fully operative dim-dip no longer works. I guess there is no regular bulb to complete the circuit?

Thanks for all the suggestions

Is that with engine on or off?

On mine (before HID fitted - see above post :o ) only the bumper lights operated with ignition off, but when ignition switched on, the headlights came on at half brightness.

I remember this on several previous cars of various manufacture, although my Corsa and Rav-4 (both 2000 models) do not have this facility.

Hello mate it's a 1990 series I. Have you got this kit fitted to your car?

Does it with ignition on or off mate. Which wire did you use for the live? I'm having trouble figuring my kit out.
