the misses is hell bent on a land rover as a run about for the 4 kids we have ....so her req is a CSW 110 or at least a 90 which can seat 6+...not into discos or freelanders....anyone had any exp or advice on these 4x4 legends?

Hello mate. How much you looking to spend? Try to get a TD5 engine if you can - quite reliable in the Defender. Only 1 repolaced in the 6 years I have worked for Land Rover. Look out for water leaks at the top of the screen as they can be tricky to tie down. Also check for oil leaks at the front of the bell housing and diff flanges and thats about it I reckon.

I had a 2.5D 94' Disco LWB and tbh, as a family car I couldny fault it, and I did abuse it over dirt tracks etc never had a single problem wi it.

In fact, a bloke ran into the back of me on a round about in his alfa romeo, and his car was wrecked!... some paint came off my rear bumper and that was it!

 

Had an ex army 90 many years ago... jesus it was slow, unbearably so.

we already got a people carrier with 7 seats...the missus just hates them..apart from black smoked out chrysler voyagers...but the csw 110 is her dream...thanks for the info Ivan re the engine...havent set a budget yet

Very helpful bunch of fellas.

 

If you are going for the diesel then try and get one with the TD5 unit in. Loads of torque, loads of go (for a diesel). Better than the 300 diesel unit, which in turn is better than the 200 diesel unit.
