Car tries to veer off road by it's self! Help needed.

I think this could be an offset problem as the car was absolutely fine before I fitted some Mania Vortex 18" alloys (235 front, 265 rear).

The odd thing is that the alloys came off a zed  I can only think that whoever bought the wheels in the first place obviously didn't check the offsets!

Does anyone know what the offset is for the Kosei Mania Vortex alloys? I've tried searching the web for this info but couldn't find it anywhere. Also, where could I purchase spacers from?

Any help would be much appreciated as the car isn't much fun to drive as it is :(

PS. If the LHS wheel goes down a rut in the road, the steering wheel pulls quite aggressively to the left! vica versa for the RHS.

you probably need to get a full alignment done first, then go from there.

did you have 18's before?

I don't have these exact wheels myself but I have the same size in a different make, and my car is similar on an uneven road surface or in a heavily worn motorway lane. Just how bad is it? When you go for wheels upgrades it usually results in increasing the tyre scrub radius and with it the self-aligning torque of the tyre / wheel, so this is normal to a certain extent. Adding spacers I would have thought would make it worse, ignoring all the other arguments against them.

I had stock wheels before that & it was fine, didn't drift off line at all.

TBH, I'm wishing I stuck with the stock wheels!

What pressure should I have the tyres pumped to?

Thanks,

Shaun

It seems you're absolutely right. I just spoke to a specialist & he told me exactly what you've said. It's a bit of a PITA to be honest but I'll have to get used to it!

Thanks for that,

Shaun

I've had the same result with over-square tires (no jokes please) on standard wheels. Just put a set of Bridgestones on the wheels - it did have Mitchelin Pilots - and now its stopped hunting the camber. Mind you, the grip is not as good, but they were cheaper than the Pilots...

1990 Na used daily...

the tyre pressures should be 34psi i think, take it to a garage where they have the laser wheels alighnment and tracking setup thingy. when i fitted my 17inch blitz type3 rims i had it done and pretty much every thing was slightly out, tracking, toe in toe out... the lot. and only cost me 20 quid to rectify and they did it there and then. the car felt totally different afterwards.

with the heavily worn road/motorways where big ass grooves have been set into the road from big mo fo lorries then its going to squirm about any way. all i will say is WHY THE F*** ARE YOU IN THE INSIDE LANE!!! YOU OWN A ZED DAMMIT GET IN THE RIGHT LANE!!! LOL!!

good luck
