I have a 90 TT Targa auto Jap spec, It recently had an engine rebuild due to a knackered radiator. Cut a long story short, the engine has been done very well, but the wiring was completley butchered and am currently trying to repair all the faults!! :

1) Speedo goes hay wire, 100mph when stationary!!! Impressive but annoying!!

2) Power steering intermitant, suspect air in system

3) the most important!!!! It seems that sometime the car goes like the proverbial of a shovel the next its flat! I never know whether its going to go or not! I have replaced all the turbo and coolant hoses with piperX ones so there shouldn't be a leak! Is there a Safety boost limit that might be on? If so how is this turned off!? My concern is that its intermittant! A friend suggested today that there might be boost limiter with the gear box to reduce wheel spin in 1st gear!? This might be reducing boost in all gears? Is this the case and how could i solve that!?

 

My apologies for rambling but the problems seem to be leading me round in circles!!!!! Any help on any of the above would be greatly received!!!!! :headvswal

Try ECU diagnostic. do a search and you'll find out how to do it easy. See if you get any error codes and post them on here.

id say that the speedo is a bad earth!! sounds like engine was fitted in a rush!!! could be flat due to vacum hose not tight etc or back to the bad earth id say but might be wrong

plug it in to a laptop??? to check sensors as knock sensor will reduce boost if no operative

Sounds like the speed sensore if its the speedo and powersteering playing up.

could be bad speed convertor for 1 and 2

Standard is 225 Front and 245 rear (UK spec), and you dont want any narrower

 

255 or 265 wide is a common rear width size, and 225 or 235 for the front.

I have the skinniest tyres on a Zed I think. 215 all round :x: but I don’t have any probs with traction hammering it away from a standstill or cornering. Been very happy in the wet too.

I have cheepo tyres as well, Stunner Scudo. Been more than happy with them, don’t have any plans to change them at all.

Been in Zeds with less power than mine with fat tyres of a good brand and they scrabble about for grip like a sod, so don’t always believe fatter is best. ;)

I have 215 35 18's on but the wheels are much wider than the tires! The back struggles big time!! Forever sideways!! Its cool but dunno what tires to go for as they do need changing! Anyone wanna buy these?????????/

mister zeebling would you b the the man who know's neil grady from shrew.. i run 265/40/18R 235/3518F noiticed the diff straight away..you can get cheaper tyre's from black circle tyre's in the trader's sec there's one in shrew,but you got to join up to get the benifit's of that. no pic's yet goit? give him chance to get used it.
