In my work I see lots of motorbikes.

The import ones almost always have under 20,000 miles / km on the clock when they come 'off the boat'.

I think lots have done more and been clocked somewhere.

What do you think about import Zs? How many have genuine mileages and how many have been clocked?

One of my old Z's an import had supposedly done 40k odd miles (70000km) There was no fookin way it had only done that.

I don't belive a lot of them

seeing as they are so strict about servicing in Japan there's no reason why a majority of imports should not come with a full service history in japanese, which should document the mileage.

I would put money on it that 90% of the cars that come from Japan have been clocked :nono: :slap:

I do believe the Japanese are essentially honest people and that most cars sold at auction are genuine.......

.......however now that importing Japanese sports cars is big business, several UK based importers now have a rep permanently based in Japan. I think it is these guys that clock the cars - they buy any old crap for buttons at auction, clock them and flog them to the unsuspecting british public for vastly inflated prices :xxx:

Why is it that most "new" imported ZXs seem to have "54K miles" on the clock. I bought an imported Supra Mk3 6 years ago when imports were a relatively new concept and it came with a whole stack of history and documents, indicating it was genuine. I wouldn't buy an import now unless I could be certain it was genuine. When I was looking for a ZX I saw so many imports that initially looked good but upon closer examination it was clear the mileages were tampered with. Luckily I found a genuine, good UK car instead.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

oh dear, if Zed prices werent bad enough I think you have just lobbed another £500 off their values :headvswal well at least off the imports values, lucky im not selling up .

my import had jap service history which tallied with mileage however anyone wanting to scam a high miler it would lob the book which showed that and clock it...still lots of investigations by OFT etc show it goes on all over the UK...so look for other signs and inspect carefully...IIRC lots of 60's classic sports didnt even have tacho's so inspection is everything...more so if you spending lots of hard earned

 not only jap mileage/history that can be messed with

some british service history is not worth the paper it's written on

how many people actually check history BEFORE they buy?

easy to see where the TS get the idea that all people who make copies of cds etc are drug dealers/criminals and terrorists

i believe for eg my car had 50k on the clock going by the engine and iv seen 100k zs

and things like electrical connectors just fall to pieces!!!! and oil stains here there and everywhere... and interior condition is a good indication not guaranteed

but theres bound to be clocked imports its unavoidable especially with the price of japanese imports at the mo

I never trust the miles on ANY car I buy, let alone an import. Just have to look about the car and make sure it looks like its been looked after and ignore the miles it says.

Yer same, you can get a shed that's done 50000 miles & an immaculate car that's done 100000 miles

judge the car, not the mileage.

I got a celica a few years ago, had done 25,000 according to clock and yet it had a cold start rattle when it was on a cold start so more like 90,000. at the end of the day some of these boats take a few weeks to ship the cars, the importers probably employ someone to clock any vehicles not carrying decent history.
