Im getting frustrated...

Is there any way to override the preset write speed on DVD writeable media? apparently they all have a tag from the manufacturer which dictates the max speed. got some media that is branded as 4x writeable but on examining the tag its not specified so nero defaults to 2x max...

am i best ditching the pile of disks or can it be overridden?

Cheers

Dave

what media and what writer are you using m8?

PERSONALLY i don't like nero for dvds, record now max is spot on

could be loads of reasons, cheap discs? firmware in your writer etc etc

its a new sony writer sposed to do up to 16x dvd write, ill give the record now software a try. probably just the media, fooking PC world....

There are very few DVDs which could be written at that speed at the moment, and they will be more exensive than the average discs. There is not speed block on DVDs or CDs. Every time the disc is put in, a test is made to how fast it can acutally write at that speed. It is the quality of the DVD which determins what speed it can be written at.

You may need a firmware update to actually make the speed too. So check out your manufacturers site to see if there any updates.

I can write at 8x on 4x discs

thats in a dvd standalone duplicator though so I dont think it counts.

also note its no good recording at 8x if you cannot read the disc flawlessly at 8x otherwise it ends up taking just as long.........

DVD shrink & Nero & blank media from http://www.svp.co.uk work flawlessly at 8x everytime for me (16x Pioneer)

Bulkpaq are known for offering great value discs. This is their best ever deal in our opinion.

8x write speed, inkjet printable surface, and a great price. This disc has it all.

SVP Price: £4.99 / €uro7.24. Prices include VAT.

brought a pack of expensive branded philips media (sposed to be good for 8x) and so far so good, burned at 8x speed and currently watching the last few minutes of empire strikes back at the moment without a hitch!! cheers chaps, was the jollocks media all along.... (also +R seems to be more reliable than -R)

cheers
