the production finninsh on these engines and the scoobies is awesome just like its been ported and polished by hand but they aint the ports on the scoobies ive seen they have no restriction on the exhaust side you can seee the whole back of the valve thru the port and very little restriction on the inlet

Mitsi have always made storming motors, one of the colt versions was fooking quick, and the turbo Galant was as well, the Starion TTEX was a missile. Even the GTO/FTO arent slow, just the gubbins that lets them down.

ahh starion turbos still like them the wide arches make them look well tough used to a red one up my road but its gone now nice mota did very well as a grp a rally car

we can make the 0-60 on our cars quicker if you change the gearing to suit.

gearings one thing, traction & weight are the main issues on our cars. youd need to defy the laws of physics to get a 3.5 sec zed!!!

tbh i cant get good traction in 1st gear as it is, nevermind lowerin the gearing!

but you are compairing 2 very different cars.

I would like to see the Evo do over 180mph.

Good point Stu - I'm sure if you put Evo's gearing in the Z and added 4x4, the Z would almost defo the laws of physics, but what I would like to see is how quick an evo would be with Z gearing!!!!!

Horses for courses un'all that.

I believe that different cars project different emotions in people. The Evo for me screams aggression and noise but the Z ouzes sexiness and finnese! The only thing I believe that the evo has on the Z is reliability. Performance is give and take and other than the evo having 2 back seats that are slightly more usuable, I believe the Z has more usuable space when the backseats are down.

just my 2p worth.

Norris Designs evo????

the new evo has been taken off the shelf as sucj and modded then sold as new cars, if memory serves me right it is fitted with a GT30 turbo different ECU has lighter panels etc and a few other engine mods and they are now claiming its the most powerful/fastest production saloon car ever made? and with them figures who could argue

Oh and i think it does do about 175 mph as well ;)

So it cant go 183 mph? ;)

That'll be the almost extinct Vauxhaul Lotus Cartlon then??

That'll be the almost extinct Vauxhaul Lotus Cartlon then??

technically the Lotus carlton was never the fastest production saloon car produced because it was taken from vauxhaul to lotus and they finished it so that asks the question of the evo as they take the standard one and then add the bits etc so is it a production car???

and the Bmw e34 B10-BiTurbo (based on my other car - Bmw 535i) was faster and superior in every way to the Lotus Carlton anyway...but again not strictly a Production car in, although you could buy them from Bmw Dealers.

Its just been on Topgear. Its called the MR (I think)

I actually saw one of these in Southport today.

FQ400 just been on Top Gear, fook me ist fast. Did a set of corners on the track against a Lambo Mercialago driven by some touring car driver and the Evo was quicker! And it was driver by Clarkson, so it coulda been faster!! Possibly if driven by a fit blonde German frau LOL!!!

sorry but being an ex turbo vauxhall owner the similarities between the vxl carlton and the lotus carlton was just cosmetic the whole car was re engineered byt lotus all vxl did was cut holes in the bonnet and sent it to lotus

lotus re-engineered the whole lot the mota lots of forged bits, suspension with revised mounting points to improve geometry the floor pans arent even the same aswell as the rear axle

its the only std four door family saloon thatll see the naughty side of 180 still saving for one thats my ultimate practical car. cheap to 18 - 20k

go down to frosts in shoreham theres 3 owned buy the show room staff and parts staff look for the one with carbon-carbon brakes its got over 640 hp

That evo was mental! Just shows you can get big hp from small engines with a huge turbo, but also shows that they are completley undrivable!

Yeah but you've got to admit, you would exactly the same result if you tried to accelerate in 5th from 30mph in a Z. It's not a natural scenario - You wouldn't drive around at 30 in 5th, you would use 3rd or what ever is suitable.

That POS that they were compairing it to, probably only had a 90mph top end!

yeh, lol, that was funny. Although the Zed would pull a lot stronger than the FQ in that scenario. It has a lot more torque/power off-boost than the little 2 litre lump, and two smaller turbos, rather than 1 massive one, means boost would probably come on sooner.

just seen top gear as well - i think clarkson slated the car - mind you there were plenty of dodgy points about it (like the lag, wheel arches peeling off!!!)
