Dyno Run Result for me

Ok had my car on the dyno on friday morning, and managed 431 bhp on the back wheels @ 1.09bar biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

 

i was well chuffed.

You who ask about mods, maybe you'll appreciate my struggle. WaZZa has had an engine explosion at some point due to his MINES ECU not interacting too well with the UK fuel.

 

I'm not being sour puss over this, I say top banana to the SA Universal Soldier....hope my car will do the same! But a classic example of mods equals lack of day-to-day reliability! wink.gif

 

My car had an incompatibility problem with S.E biggrin.gif

 

Nah car went belly up in Rome in Italy, due to 90 octane fuel and wrong plugs.

 

Secret to power is MINES ECU/550CC INJECTORS/HKS SUPER DRAGGER biggrin.gif /HKS INTAKE/

And last but not least, keeping it away from S.E biggrin.gif

Did you find out what turbo's you have fitted? Stock ones won't produce that much power!

I somehow think i found something today on the trip home from duffman will have to see if it works, i think i had setup my boost controller completly wrong

I was very lucky to buy this car with alot of the mods on it.

I will give you a rundown of what its got and how much its cost me, asap.

And what we will find out is that mine is virtually standard (and hasn't blown itself apart due to a dodgy MINES ecu!) wink.gif

 

If mine makes 300bhp at the wheels then I'll be deleriously happy !!!! In fact if it doesn't blow the turbo seals out the back then I'll be pretty happy !! biggrin.gif

never played with a dyno before so excuse dumb questions ...

 

Noticed that your dyno run was in 4th gear, any resaon for that ? Like maybe they don't want the rollers turning at 160mph+ ??

 

Do you need to do anything different for an auto ? Because it's not likely to be a 'single gear' run - you'll see peaks and troughs in the torque and power curves as it changes gear.

 

How do they apply the 'correction' for transmission loss ? Obviously this will differ from model to model and between manual and auto.

4th is used because on most cars it's the closest to a 1:1 ratio

 

On a Jap auto - they should put the box in hold (keeps it in the higest gear), so you'll get a strange graph, because of it changing from 2nd to 3rd (or whichever change it makes in hold).. Or you have to yell at the operator when it shifts into 4th to start the Dyno recording.. (thats a sort of quote from Phuong BTW)..

 

As for tranny losses - most flywheel figures are, to put it politely, guesses..

 

Basically the idea is that you (if I recall) put the clutch down, and let the wheels roll down to zero on their own accord.. The computer then uses that time to determine the drag of the drivetrain, and therefore the flywheel figure..

 

The best article I've ever read on Dynos and how they work etc can be found here;

It gives a better explanation of why flywheel figures aren't that great a thing to rely on, and why if you want to compare power with your mates, it needs to be done on the same dyno, same operator etc..

BTW Warren, most impressed with 310 bhp in what is essentially safety boost!

It will be interesting to see Warrens figures for that dyno and the one at Hemel.

Will also like to see the barometric pressure and temp figures.

 

Just has a thought about the MR2 Turbo as well - does the place direct air towards the back/sides of the car ? Being a mid-engine that's where the air intakes are ...

Andy it is pretty cold and assuming the fan works it should be alright for the mr2.

 

This was a run at the hammel hamsted place, i passed them on the way up to Duffmans do.

I phoned him again today querying my power output (basically because no one believes me, so now i doubt myself) and he says they test many cars which come out very close to exact spec, and he says obviously each dyno will vary, but he is quite sure the run was pretty accurate.

He also said its the strongest car theyve had on the rollers biggrin.gif

 

also regarding flywheels power, he recons it is not as high as some people like to believe.

Im going to try get my cats gutted before the next run.
