Its Official, our cars are worth f**k all....

Just browsing the forum for the first time in a while and the price that zeds go for nowadays is an absolute joke....

I think its gonna take at least 2-3 years before there's any kind of turn around, theres too many about what with them being shipped in from here, there and everywhere........

Then theres people like Kirbz, Mike Groves, tattooman etc etc who are all selling up and leaving......

Whats happened? What happened to the love for the Zed?

I would NEVER sell mine for a Pooper Scooper, Skylark or any other jap motor.......

Zeds's rule...rant over... :duffer:

I don't think the problem is with the Z, it is that fact that not many people want to run a 3 litre engine with the price of petrol these days.

And lets not forget that not all people have such good taste like us bunch

True to life cars are a waste of money - invest in bricks and mortar

Well i wont be selling to replace her with a Skipline or a Poopra FACT! Mine is here to stay :hyper: ;)

There are a lot of people buying these because of the initial spec (3.0l TT) and they want to get into a pissing contest with the computer game/Burbery hat brigade. :xxx: They'll soon dissappear as they move onto the next big thing or when it bites them in the ass on a damp road! :D

As an enthusiast of the model I don't care how low the price goes coz I'm not selling anyway :)

If id not stumbled accross my SWB i certainly wouldnt be selling, but i can afford to keep both, tis a shame i know, but when the SWB is done, that wont be getting sold for anything else.

Its a shame that such a fantastic car is being sold for hardly anything, but all the Big engined Jap cars are getting cheap now (I know some deserve to be 3000gt ) but unfortunately thats the market :(

Rich

Dont forget the Zed has bad press. Talk to anyone who has heard anything about the Z and it is of an unreliable, unforgivable, costly but god its fast beast.

For my part I am willing to put up with all that permanently due to one very very very good reason that blows all the others away.

The sixe of the whopping great smile on my face my car gives me when I open her up and that £50000 toy dissapears in my rear view. Oh and I havent had a major problem on my car now for over a year. Few niggles but generaly shes tip top

I Just have mine up for an offer of 9,000 :D

I've had my zed for 3 years now, will probably have it for another 10 if i can

I think that even though this is an enthusiasts board, only about 5% of us on here wouldnt trade the 300zx in for anything else.

Sure, money is tight, its xmas, I need a manwell box etc etc etc, but I'll get it done in Januaury and not sell her off cheap no matter whats wrong with her......

She's here to stay for good........ :duffer: FACT :duffer:

i agree its a sad state of affairs, how can such a great car be worth so little, but at least it means insurance is (slightly) lower with a lower value car

your all right to some extent but its not only the z thats loosing value.

infact most zs are 12-14 years old look at skylines on a m or n reg only fetching 4-5k gtos similar even some rx-7s going between 5-6k so

supras for some reason hold there value well

scoobys for the same year are 3-5k

mr2s £50 lol

so lets face it most people want a new motor! and considering finance is so easy to get- why not!!im not seling for the forseable future as there isent a sports car on the market close to the z... perfomance wise for the money

infact i went out in my bosses rx-7 quick but dident feel no way as quick as my z fact

secondly its winter FFS who wants a car with the roof off wait til the summer im sure the value will creep up,as long as dogs arent being sold on ebay etc

the price thing is relative...saw some bentleys which had dropped 100k in around 3 years...bargain eh?...same is true of zeds except the initial price was different

theres no fauling the car its just a question of economics.....you can get and run a skylline or supra both of which give less hassle servicing can be serviced easily and dont have the hodge podge of self proclaimed z specialists charging crazy prices for parts and repairs.......faced with those facts people just see sense and take the easy no brainer option

Just wait till you see the price of soops bottom out as soon as the new model is released

350z is partly the reason why prices have bottomed out, as those who are not in the know are going for them & Same is happening with the RX8 and the RX7

£7K cash for a RX7 or 300zxTT thats more than 10yrs old with questionable reliability or £5k deposit & three years of relatively low payments for a 'brand new' model thats under full warranty..

= depreciating market = lower prices :(

But I know better & wouldn't swap my Z for the new one... well I might, then sell it then buy a Convertible Z, a SWB TTTintop & a 2+2 'family' car! hehe.

I'm not planning on going anywhere! Still love my Zed and wouldn't trade her for anything... Will have had her 8 years in Feb! I realise that there are better/faster/cheaper to run cars about, but you pay your money, you take your choice.. ;)

I think its just that to most people a car is something you get in and drive. OK you have to fill it up with juice and take it for a service and that is as involved as they want to get. If you look at what the various buyers guides like Parkers, and what they say about the car then unless you knew your onions you wouldn't buy a Z on the advice they give. + Every mag/rag or artical that you find on the Z say it can be an unforgiving beast and although they can progress very quickly, you have to have your wits and a modicum of driving skill to own one and stay alive.

Now every boy racer I've ever met wamts to own a skyline, Imprezia, Evo or some other four wheel drive hot hatch, impossible to loose unless you have Suicide in mind. Why because they cannot drive and want to go fast.

The Z is a driver and enthusiasts car and some of us will always love it. Lets face it thats what Ferrari were like. Great enthusiasts cars when their going and costly to fix when their not. Mine is not for, nor will it be, for sale. (though I'm not spending any more on it. Well once i've finish it  )

If i do sell my Z it wont be for a good few years yet. And if i do, it will only be to replace it with a twin turbo! Infact, if i buy a TT, id probably keep my NA aswell! :D

I can kind of understand why the shit boxes are so cheap, but the annoying thing is that a well looked after, well maintained, modded Z doesnt go for much more?

buyers market makes ppl who need to sell setlle for less than the car is worth and there is a bit of a Dutch auction fever -everyone undercutting to get a sale. It's feeding time 4 the sharks

ppl who often buy Zeds are not wealthy enough or have the spare cash to keep them going - hence resale prices have plumetted :-(

supply and demand - Zeds are great cars, but a 3-litre engine with current petrol prices, potentially expensive problems and rip-off Nelson Mandellas - u can see why many are avoiding them.

I guess it's also the "if u can afford to run one, u can afford a newer car" and "if it's the best u can afford, u prolly are too young for low enough insurance or cannot afford to run it" - think that's what saw Jags prices plummet.

It's a posers car, and posers usually want a newer car !!

(Forgive the back-track...)

True to life cars are a waste of money - invest in bricks and mortar

Wash your mouth out!

This may come as a surprise, but I didn't buy my Zed as a financial investment! I bought it because a) It's one of a few cars that give you big bang for small buck (maintenance aside) b) I happen to think it's the best looking and c) I'd always wanted one! :D

... skylline or supra ... dont have the hodge podge of self proclaimed z specialists charging crazy prices for parts and repairs.......faced with those facts people just see sense and take the easy no brainer option

Bit of a sweeping statement that, and I disagree. Sure Zed parts are expensive, but there are some GOOD specialists out there. It's not a no-brainer, simply a question of priorities :)

Anyway, back on-topic, I'm certainly keeping mine for the foreseeable future.

whilst the cost of running a zed is an issue i'm not sure the maintenance is any more than new motors...they all have to be plugged in to a computer nowadays which can only be done at the dealer...the zed was there years ago and thanks to conzult/dta etc you can DIY...with new motors there a lot of sharks in car leasing with catches and penalty charges all over the place so the advantage of leasing a new motor is often marred by unexpected charges...also the main stealers often say this an that is outside of warrenty or there is some excess on that bit or its the bosses wifes birthday....etc...etc..etc

Well i wont be selling to replace her with a Skipline or a Poopra FACT! Mine is here to stay :hyper: ;)

:duffer: Dito :duffer:

We should see this as good news! low prices mean people who cant afford to run them will buy them, they will then run them into the ground due to maintenance costs, as a result there will be less on the road and the price will go up, the people who do maintain them will buy parts keeping spares at reduced cost, so we can all benefit from it.
