Silvia engineering do a set of 4 pulleys (crank, power steering, alternator, water pump). Is this a better option than a single underdrive pulley from SGP? If they are all smaller/lighter is that better, or is the ratio between the pulleys the key to more power?

UD pully is on my next purchase list. On ttnet there is some chat about udpully and I vaigly remember some dyno charts on this subject. Probably worth a search.

I know that the stock TT pully is 13lbs and some UD pullies weigh as little as 4 lbs.

I am waiting for SE to report back to me on the gains of having one of these.

Obviously key items such as alternator and water pump will run slower. For water pump will probably not be a problem in UK, as for alternator, if U have a home entertainment system in your car with full DVD DPL 5.1 surround sound then maybe at idle with your lights on and de-mister on you might have problems ;-).

I know from chatting to SE that inertia on the Z's is a bit of challenge and maybe the UD pully is a product will be part of a long line of products to beat inertia e.g Lightweight flywheel, carbon fibre driveshaft etc. We will have to see.

Have a search and see how ya go.

If you buy one, post your opinions.

i know cossies are a million miles away from the 300 but i had all this done to mine before it was knicked and you will get bhp gains and better running but i would say you really need to get them all done at the same time as they all compliment one another but one at a time is sometimes putting loads on things you will later regret

Hi,

I have an Auto Specialties underdrive pulley (from SGP) on my car. It's been on for 2-3 years now. No problems, it does make nice difference wonce you open it up a little! on the M-way, not noticable at first with general driving. The engine gains a new lower grunt noise when you put load on it, which sounds good too. Remember to order the smaller belts. SGP also sold another make, can't remember what it was now, but loads of people had problems with the belts slipping within a short space of time. (this was before the AS modal was available)

I've not heard of the full set of pulleys being replaced. Also, I do not understand it apart from a weight loss. The main pulley reduces the load on the engine, thus giving you more of the power.

I've not had any problems with low power, battery charging, low revs, stereo, Air-con etc. I know the Auto Spec one is designed to work just within the Nissan minimum specifications so your car still runs fine.

If you are going for a cam belt change (or water pump fix! etc) then that's the best time to do the pulley as it's accessable.

Have fun!

The ASP pulley is a great upgrade. the car feels more responsive and sounds nicer at 3k rpm +
