Well got greeted today by an unmarked vectra flashing its blues & sounding its nasty two tone horn. Then a rather tall ? got out wearing black & white clothing and a massive smug grin."good afternoon sir, nice motor,do you know what I've pulled you for? . In my mind "gee let me think ,I'm driving something a bit different & your a TO**ER". Boy were my thoughts right ,he said the glass to the front of my A posts was too dark. I told him the car had been bought with this film already fitted but he was not interested. He said it should allow 70% of light through it .He then lowered the window and placed his gadget on it and took great satisfaction in telling me mine only allowed 16% and issued me with a £30.00 fixed penalty. The question is should I appeal (I hadn't got a clue about this law) I thought people were encouraged to use privacy glass for security to cut down crime. You look after your motor ,everything legal & they still can't leave you alone.Sorry for going on ,but well pi**ed off for getting pulled all the time for driving a 300 I think the world of.Any advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers John

Unfortunately this country is a complete shower of shite!!!!

Run by a bunch of robbin' :xxx: and a police force that cant do anything worthwhile!! IMO

REDZED, How do the law check it then? do they just stick something to the window they want to test, or check the amount of light inside the vehicle with windows and doors shut?

  • Author

Shunter, what the law do is lower your window and then place the glass into a groove in an electronic box which gives a digital readout ,then in my case grin from ear to ear issue a £30.00 fine & gladly proceed with their useless day to day quest of pi**ing motorist off (depending on what you drive) .Pity they don't donate more time to catching real criminals .Cheers for your comment Scottywill, nice to know someone thinks the same.

Yup now what u mean,I got pulled for having my frount fogs on :nono:

we! all know that it makes the car look kool so told the percy that i had invertantly switched them on instead of the heated rear screen and thanked him very much for brining it to my atention!!!!!!

sorry bout yer £30 fine but it could have been worse. Mate got done

£300 for speeding a few months back 70 thro 50 near bath.

Ah dont take it too bad REDZED at least you know your money will be going towards another fantastic speed camera for our roads! Then they can take some more of your cash, and fingers crossed that will go into employing another policeman/woman who can harrass even more criminals, sorry i mean motorists.

C*nts

How VVank is that?

Coppers spend loads on special 'film strength detectors' and go out nicking people.

Like they have nothing better to do?

I have a picture somewhere of the North Wales Police Recruiting coach with fully tinted windows all round. Also got a Policemans BMW booked in for window tints on Monday!!

Tried to kid him about them being illegal to which he grinned saying he was from Birkenhead where they have better things to do than chase motorists like North Wales !!

Wish I could see him in the BMW when its been tinted (still probably wouldn't be able to it would be too dark in their car). Thanks for all the positive feedback everybody. What I didn't mention "which was nice" was school was just kicking out and all these lads coming passed shouted to me"Nice motor mate" then shouted "Eh copper lucky he stopped cause he could have blown you away" So at least we can all take satisfaction in knowing why the police really pull us over.THEIR THAT PI**ED OFF,THAT WITH ALL THIER FANCY GADGETRY ,LIGHTS,SIRENS ,ETC,IT STILL DOES'NT GIVE THEM AS MUCH PRESCENCE ON THE ROAD AS A 300ZX. So we all know they'll "Never have more cred than a ZED!"

pigs by name pigs by nature ........i got pulled in a random ( anything that looks flash )

check for tax discs etc , plod ranted on about my front windows being too dark and insisted it was illegal , no gadgets to check it with by the way !! i argued the point it was jap import with standard factory tints . he called me a liar and was about to wite out the 30 quid ticket when another plod told him to take his sunglasses off and check again ................i Pi&&ed myself laughing at him ....good luck , but when your nicked your nicked .

Seriously darkened windows are a bit daft in this dark and dreary country in winter. Maybe fine for LA. While you can see ahead OK the view sideways at night must be like Blunketts when he's driving.

As for foglights all the plonkers who drive with them on in perfectly clear weather deserve to be fined.

I've had some points for some slight motorway speed silliness too but I'd rather have our plod than the plod of any other country on the planet.

You get used to it, and if you really have a problem, like when you're at a t-junction on an unlit country road, you can always wind the window down! ;)

So what do we do then WillieO ,have some seperate tinted glass to fit when the sun comes out.Plus for further information it is also used for a security measure even though not originally fitted by me .As for plods "I'm sure everybody else would agree ,they should be donating their time to catching real criminals ,that batter the elderly ,etc.Instead of picking on people who pay enough out to run their motor legally & to a high standard on the road already." I notice your the only negative feedback at the moment.Question/ Which member of your family is a plod then?

As for plods "I'm sure everybody else would agree ,they should be donating their time to catching real criminals ,that batter the elderly ,etc.

The cops that stop you for tints are most likely to be traffic cops, and guess what! their job is to deal with traffic ieroad safety. Different cops for different jobs.

My Z was fitted with tints the first time i took it for a test drive, just as it was getting dark, i couldnt believe how badly visibility was affected! and that was in the middle of Edinburgh with decent road lighting. It was that bad I cut the road test short.

The cops purge on tints came after a fatal crash in which tinted windows were held to be a major contributary factor. After driving once with tints i could see how easy this could happen.

How many people here would drive at night or in poor visibility with dark sunglasses on?. Not many I would hope (people that stupid shouldnt be allowed to drive fiesta's far less 300's), they are basically the same only

its easy to take off glasses when the light changes.

:duffer: Got pulled on me bike. Dark visor :D Plod said £30 please. I said I have a clear one in my bag and change it when it get's dark :duffer: Plod got back in his car p***** off

Sorry lads when I said "etc" after battering the elderly in previous post .I should have been more precise by including what etc meant."Police should be catching car thieves" "Tax & insurance dodgers" "Dangerous drivers." Sorry I forgot that when criminals leave the scene in a high powered car after battering an old person or an armed robbery ,the police on the beat give chase with their rocket powered boots.

I'm sure no one on this forum would do anything to cause death or injury by their visibility being poor ,but as mentioned by Dave Marley if you believe it to be a problem just lower your window when required.I have always been particularly aware of motorcyclist & fast cars after losing a good mate in 1996 when a van pulled in front of his GSX1100R.

When I was pulled it was perfectly good light & I very rarely use my car at night but if I did I would use it sensibly.I have owned Zs for 10 years accident free at great speeds and have no intention of changing from a Z "Think their mint".Don't think I'd be going to a Fiesta but I'd love to know how sunglasses add to the security of your car opposed to privacy glass .

P.S Nice one Neil.

vbgarage.php?do=getimage&id=405

LOL nice reply REDZED, point taken!!!!. however personally I think that the cyclists life that is wiped out cause he wasnt seen is worth a damn site more than the hand bag that was kept safe lying on the passanger seat hidden by the tinted windows!!!

  • Author

Thanks for reply Ossian,I also see both sides ,but as I was not aware of the new law & not having fitted the film myself, just thought the police could of give me 7 days to have removed it instead of banging a £30 fine on me.

vbgarage.php?do=getimage&id=405

To be honest I'm a bit supprised that you were issued with a fixed penalty, I reckon most of the forces north of the border would have given you a V rec! 21 day slip, ie get it fixed and nothing else would happen.

Guess you were really unlucky.

At least you didnt pay to have the tints fitted, that would have really pissed you off. heard a few folk paying £250 to get their windows tinted ( when the tinters new that it was illegal) getting stopped by the police and told to take them off, then the tint firms charging another £80 to have the tints removed.

I'd have went berserk.

Mine were on when I got the car from Japan too (6+ years now! )

Although visibility is undoubtedly reduced in the dark, it's something you take into account - you don't just glance to the side when turning out of side streets, you look properly. Same applies coming up to roundabouts.

Interesting, my brother had to remove the tints on his yank truck because of this, and they were a legal tint, but he thought better safe than sorry. The folks of the 200sx club thought I was talking b0llocks when I mentioned this , shows how wrong they were.

To be honest its just another petty reason to intimidate and hound the motorist, I wonder if the cop wearing the sunglasses had been driving the copcar ? They seem to be excluded from laws regarding mobile phones whilst driving .

However a funny situation happened when I was on my way to work, when a Gold Fusion came off a slip road and carved up a blue Beemer, when the beemer blew its horn the fusion driver stopped his car and got out , then stood glaring at the beemer , the beemer blew the horn again, the fusion fella stayed put, and was then confronted by the high ranking copper who got out of the beemer and proceeded to get his book out. lmfao.

But its the silly pre-pubescent twats who run 'cruises' and subscribe to First Car and other such mags who cause anti-modding laws to be brought in by thier stupid behaviour which tars everyione with the same brush. It would pi55 me off if someone was out revving the nuts of some silly little stolen hatchback at 2am just to impress some jailbait.

Hats off to anyone who does the job properly, spends time and effort in customising cars to thier own taste, but there are too many idiots out there that do nothing to enhance the image of legitimate modifieds/altered cars.

unfortunatly the law is the law, your only allowed tints that let thru less than 70% on the rear windows :(

I'd pay the fine, and just hope u dont get caught again.
