What do you all reckon? Should I keep my Z or sell it, sell my ZX6R as well and buy a low mileage Elise?

I rarely drive at high speeds (where the Z rules), never use my bike anymore, and want something more fun to drive. Much as I love the Z, it's cost me £5k to rebuild the engine, fit new turbos etc and I'm scared of something else major going wrong. What does everyone think?

I could get £7-8k for the car & bike together, spend 10k on a 1998 30k miles Elise and aim to keep it for the next few years (i only do about 6k miles a year). Insurance wise, there's not much difference. I can't decide!!!

Comfort and high power vs great handling, nippy speed that's more involving to drive.

I think you hit the nail on the head there!

I'd never swop my Z for an Elisa as (in my opinion) they look small and girly. It's never good for a large man in his 30s to drive fast in a small car.

A mate had an Elise and it was like sitting in a little wooden box with a hairdryer next to your ear.

But I'm sure they're loads of fun to drive though but rubbish on long journeys.

I'd get an Integra Type R over an Elise - just my opinion though! The Elise does hold it's value well.

Hmmm... just read this back... think I come under the 'used car as penis extension' category.

Must admit, i've driven an elise, and I really enjoyed it, problem is, I put it in the same catagory as a beach buggy, it's great fun when you use it, but you just want to give it back when you finished with it.

What do you all reckon? Should I ditch my credibility and start wearing pretty pink dresses?

David

thats up to you bud.

The Elise is not really my bag baby.........

I do like the idea of a small chuckable car for fun but not regular use. It would be fine for track use but I prefer the fast comfortable GT car.

The only thing I would replace my ZX with is the Jag XKR supercharged. Sure I'd love a DB9 or even DB7 V12 vantage, but I can actually afford a decent XKR.......

......maybe next year as I still love my ZX

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

that aint a photshop mate. Thats a real car!! (or a photoshop done by someone else. :) )

Scott... I'll have you know I look good in pink!!!... lol.

The Z is just too comfortable... you get to 60 quickly, say at 60 (or whatever... I have to be careful, lost my licence last year), and never actually feel like you're going fast. Now I know that should be a good thing, but where's the excitment (not helped being an Auto). That and I'm scared of Z engine going bang... again. Rover 1.8 would be cheap to repair... and it'd be 5 years old instead of 14 too.

I know what you all mean... but if I'm only driving 15 miles a day, would I need to worry about the comfort factor? Think I'll just go and test drive a couple... although that will mean damage for the bank balance if I like them!

Thanks guys for... errr.....making me feel like a girl. I'm off to cry myself to sleep now.

Luv and hugs and kisses from a potential hair dresser.

I owned a Lotus some time ago, it was brilliant and recently I wanted an esprit, but an elise?- well if you want to look like a student whos dad bought hime a car fine, but its not serious motoring, its like a fun car, nippy, sporty, and its got a label but its got no *****cks, , yes there are some seriously fast versions, but they will never be a car you put next to the big boys.- if your going to trade from a 300 its got to be a late esprit SE or V8 and your talking 20 grand+ with serious servicing costs.

buy a 1.3 turbo mini. You wont get better fun than that, and you'll be able to keep the zed.

Or even better................

(but not an ecotec load o rubbish) :hyper:

 Car for a rich 20 year old girl  If you said have this 20k girl car for free :nono: Keep me 6k zed thanks. But hay if you are a Girl go for the Lotus :duffer:

:hyper: P.S. Seen 4,500 Lotus El in Norwich but only 2 Zeds. Why not get a Mini 1275cc they are a girlie motor

You Elise spotter Neil, I bet most hardened die hard train spotters haven't racked up that many loco's in their entire lives as spotters! PMSL :D

Esprit is the ONLY lotus I'd have. I thought about getting one but question the reliability.

5th gear bought a nice V8 Esprit this week as a 200mph project car - a good low mileage looked after example but the gearbox completely fell apart on the drive home :o :(

Honestly if they wanted to build a 200mph project car why a Lotus - I'd have gone Japanese - Skyline or (dare I say it) Poopra. The straight 6 engines are easily tuneable to 1000bhp and should give 200mph

Richard :smw:

I bet a Z could reach 200mph. You will need a gearbox change but you will with virtually all cars to reach that speed.

seen a documentry on sky last night this chick owned an elise and she had 1 tit bigger than the other thats it really

lol..see another good reason not to get an Elise

David I can assure you if you get an Elise you'll regret it.

I've have to say unless you are 4 feet tall your going to find getting in and out of the thing painfull. A fifteen mile journey will inflicted enough discomfort to make it feel like a 45 mile journey. The Elise is a big GoKart. I've been fortunate to have done quite a few (well 3) Track days with an Elise and can tell you they are fun on the circuit, but the journey there and back was aweful.

At full chat they are a real scream even in the rain, but they have no storage for even a packet of fags never mind a coat. The hood is a pain to get out and put back in. The boot will accomodate a hand bag and a small flask and some butty's (I really like to live the high life) but anything else forget it.

If someone says we'll have an Elise at the curcuit, do you want to come down and thrape and pillage it. I'd be there like a shot and have real good fun. If they said you can thrape and pillage it, but you have to get it there first. Well I rather go and paint the Decking.

If your serious about going in that direction the Vauxhall VX is a far more user friendly car, but still as practical tits on ears. (I know they'd keep ya ears warm and you would her all the other blokes laughing and shouting, "a cut and blow please".)

markzx... thanks for the opinion. One thing I'm not getting is a Vauxhall having dealt with Vauxhall dealers in the past and I think their customer service stinks.

I think I'm going to go for a test drive of one this weekend, just to either discount it totally, or tease me, at least that way I'll see some of the negatives (although not the long journey ones) and see what I think then.

If you're gonna go down that route get an Exige or a VX220 Turbot! Elise is named after a girl and is a girl's car! FACT...MAC1 FACT!

If you can afford it, test drive an S2000. My missus has got one and it is a bloody good laugh to drive.

Handling is excellent and it's reasonably comfortable.

240bhp Vtec engine is an absolute screamer!! :D

They make em just down the road from where I live. Nice car but how common :D
