Hi peeps,

Can anyone help me regarding import duty? I am ordering some parts from the US that cost $129.99 (£68.56), and the 3-5 day tracked shipping costs $165 (£87.04) and I need to work out what other costs will be involved.

I have been to the Customs and Excise site, but the .pdf I need won't download.

I know some of you guys buy stuff from overseas, so can any of you throw some figures at me?

I'd be very grateful :duffer: .

Ive had a few things imported and have never had to pay any extra.

have imported quite a few things car parts and waterski equipment

from the us. it is a mine field but it is all done by the carrier,

if you are buying in the usa and it is to be exported the national and state tax is not payable over there so you only pay the goods value,.

if you are buying in the usa and it is to be exported the national and state tax is not payable over there so you only pay the goods value and the carrage. add to this uk duty at 10% and add17.5% to the lot. The tax and is

charged on the doller ammount as if it was pounds so be carefull

You pay for googs and carrage to the supplier in the us and you pay

the carrage company over here when it arives on your doorstep either

by giving the driver a cheque or over the phone to a call centre from the carrier

ie:

$100 goods

$50 carrage

this is then £150 +10% plus 17.5%vat

at the current exc rate will cost you £81.52 for goods and carrage, plus

your duty at 10% and vat at 17,5% (based on £150 goods value)

this total should be

£81.52(goods) + £10 (duty)+£35.27(VAT) = £126.79

still cheeper than the uk

if you have further problems let me know the amounts and i will

work it out.

sorry for the double post i have finger problem!

have worked out you possable cost if you get caught

for taxes

£155.60 (goods+carrage)

£29.49 (10%duty)

£56.78 (17.5% vat)

total £241.87

This is worst case, if yuo allow 30% of the goods in sterling you

will be about right

hope this helps

Goods arrived yesterday morning (before the wedding, while I was still in bed with a hangover!) and - to my great surprise - NO CHARGES!!

And the quality, hmm, look lovely (Megan Racing decat and downpipes) :).

Well pleased so far, I won't hesitate in ordering parts from the US in future.

Now then, I just gotta get them fitted. My mate at Kwik Fit owes me a favour......;).

Don't get too excited just yet mate, depending on who delivered em, duty and handling charges can be sent through the post later ( upto a month)

Just in case eh :)

Got a great loophole though - they left the parcel in my porch = no signature ;).

How are they gonna charge me for a delivery that they can't prove I've received!!

Oooh, I am devious at times :D.
