For anyone who's interested, here are the the restrictors in a standard jap import exhaust. They are at the front of the middle section, if that makes sense and can be seen fairly clearly here :-

Thanks for the pics mate - I've been after some visual materials for ages now. Want to de-restrict my exhaust but didn't feel much like playing the trail-and-error way.

 

Right - off to get some pipes made up.

PS - someone mentioned some time ago on this forum that there are also restrictors right in front of the back boxes - any ideas on that??

Don't think you need pipes made up, these restrictors are just rings that are spot welded in. I'm sure they can be 'removed' with a little persuasion.

I'm not aware of any restrictors before the back boxes - at least I couldn't see any when I peered down the pipe.
