no not gareth gates :p

yesterday i noticed a stuttering after flooring it, so checked the apexi filter to make sure it wasn't getting damp, had it idling and it was purring like a good 'un, driving normal no problems, been out on the motorway tonight and first off it was great, then as i was doing over a ton, i took me foot off the gas, and it started stuttering and jumping, floored it again and it seemed ok (ish) went to where i was going left the car for 1/2 hour and driving back it was deffo better, but still that stuttering when taking the foot off

so would be grateful for some pointers where to look first

it actually felt like fuel starvation the way it stuttered, (plenty in/optimax)

would a plug/s breaking down cause it, just seemed funny it was when easing off the gas

btw its a tt import, dump valves, delimited, not sure any of that helps but....

thanks in advance;)

just to add as i pulled of the motorway and stopped at the lights it was lumpy as hell, and stalled, but then started ok, i reckon i will go to it tomorrow and it will be ok, until i get it "warmed" up on the motorway

so not sure if thats relevant?

is it running on all cylinders? check all the coilpack connectors are fully pushed down, they only have to be slightly off and you can get a missfire.

Vijay

This can also occur when coasting in the car and you get a slight stuttering/hesitation caused by the air filter. Some times they are too efficient. Speak to Luke at ZCentre, as when i bought my filter he gave me a sheet with details about the same problem than could occur. Its rare but might be this.

cheers for that m8

deffo aint a "slight" stuttering am off out in a bit so will see how it runs

but im pretty sure it will be ok, as im only running round local

i deffo have had dampness in the air filter, as rain was getting through me after market headlight panel, hopefully cured that now?

iff my has been standing in wet weather a couple of days and after ive blasted around in the rain my apexi gets wet, then when i drive it i think the m.a.f gets a good shot of h20--(the hot wire inside) because it stumbles untill it drys out. you could have the same problem here lad

been out and no rain today, and was ok for about 10 mins' so i assume

when the auto choke kicked off is when it started playing up

deffo was getting that problem znut, hopefully cured that now

would a knackered maf give me those syptoms? or would it do it from start up? got a set of plugs to go in, so will check the connections when they're being done, i would say its something electrical or a plug breaking down, just need to source it:(

well after a lot of stuttering the last week or so

i finally got round to fitting Petes earthing kit, and Smithys pipes

and lo and behold today the car has run like a dream,

so one of the two things has cured it (touch wood)

give it a good seeing to round the local roads, then an even harder seeing to

down the motorway, and tested me heart coming off the motorway

as i left the motorway at full tilt, there was an old chap about 70-80 CROSSING the slip road, i stood on the brakes as i checked my insurance

and stopped about 5 yards in front of him, the funniest thing was he DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE ME lmao, so i was very impressed with the brakes and the car stopped in a straight line, a nice smell mind,

so the cause of my stuttering (i assume) was either a leaking pipe or a bad earth,

OR while i was fitting the earthing kit obviously i had the battery disconnected a while, would a the reset of the ecu have done it??

anyway for now one very happy bunny:)

  • Author

well the happy bunny didn't last long lol

just had to be brought home by the AA, flying down the m6

and got the stutter back, but this time instead of letting of my foot and it going away, it stuttered to a halt, and wouldnt start straight away

then when i got it going did the same again, so rang the AA to get me home

(whoosh only waited 20 mins)

so hopefully the ptu, i say hopefully as im waiting for one to arrive

sounds like the ptu to me, amazing how common a fault it is! everybody seems to have been through a S1 ptu at some point...

  • Author

hopefully m8, engine is superb, so annoying when i go out and not sure if

im gonna get whiplash lol, will post results here when i know, otherwise this could be a long thread

ive noticed a lot of talk about air filters recently - especially aftermarket ones. at the moment ive got a Bomz racing cone which is ok but ive noticed a) stall after lifting off throttle after revving over 3k, and b) over 4500 revs it starts to judder. okay this could be down to anything, but ive got another brand new cone filter to go in (see if this improves anything), and an ApexI powerflow  on the way, so i'll be able to see if there are any differences between the three. I'll post up my findings.

the filter was one of my first thoughts m8

as i also had vents in the headlight spoiler and heavy rain was deffo getting in

sealed those to see if that was my problem, but, deffo looking like ptu

if you have vents m8? water will be a pita

  • Author

:(:( bought and fitted a ptu from a member and it's actually worse

stuttering/missing/back firing, so o2 sensors next

put my own ptu back on and its deffo better

:( am sorry it didnt sort it out, my ptu defo works tho (did u reset the ecu?). put it back up for sale

  • Author

sorry m8 i wasnt hinting it was the ptu

no i will keep it, tried setting the ecu a few times after different bits but didnt bother this time, didnt think i would have to as it was a straight part replacement, i'll get there in the end lol;)

have you made sure the connectors on the PTU are all bright and clean. I helped a member with the same problems and it was the connectors.

yes checked those m8:) not a speck of corossion or muck

deffo something like that, a matter of hunting it down

where abouts are you? maybe someone with a conzult may be able to help.

i had someone put a computer on last night m8

and all it showed up was "weak or slow lambda sensor"

so trying those next, (bought a new one from sell forum)

  • Author

no its deffo more than that m8:(

starts perfectly, some days it will run no problem until it gets at high speed on the motorway, then last few days stuttering/missing quicker than usual

all signs of the ptu, but tried swopping that, had new turbo pipes/plugs/earthing kit, after fitting the pipes and earthing kit, it ran well for a couple of days but we also had the battery disconnected for a while

so an ecu reset could have done that,

im going to try resetting the ecu again tomorrow, hopefully it will be stuttering

before, otherwise it won't prove anything

I am not sure if my problem is similar or not. I have got my coolant problem fixed (leaky water pump) but still have my performance problem. The car accelerates poorly up to around 2 1/2K revs and the engine/car feels like it is pulsing - I see some slight fluctuation on the rev counter when my foot on the accelerator is not moving - dont know if I would class it as stuttering or not.. Certainly not normal smooth acceleration.

Some days it is ok & performs normally - today it was struggling like a 3 legged dog! Does this sound like something loose/faulty??

apart from trying all that i have, and the above what people have mentioned m8, maybe worth trying as vijay says getting someone with a consultz to see if anything obvious, will post here when i get a result

Sorry ( new member ) What is a PTU ?
