I need a bit of help from you IT/networking guys here please.

At work we have ADSL broadband. Our current setup is my PC has a PCI adsl modem, then our other PC is linked in with 10/100 NIC. Both PC's run XP pro and I use that to do home/office networking.

Time for an upgrade i thought. So i get a router/adsl modem.

That is the link to the manual for it. It is the 4 port and + model.

The problem I am having is i cannot get it to dial out and connect. It tries to, but fails every time. I can access it using ip 10.0.0.2 no problem.

I am wondering what is the correct configuration to use, PPPoE, PPPoA, Bridge or Routed. I have no idea what these mean at all, so can someone shed any light on them please?

Our old PCI modem was setup with PPPoA VCMUX, VPI 0, VCI 35. Works great.

I have had 2 weeks trying to sort this lot out and have had enough now lol.

I can generally get myself out of trouble with PC's, but this one has me stumped.

Many thanks in advance.

Robert.

Very odd - it should work with everything set to PPPoA, VCMux, VCI=0, VPI=38 and then just your adsl username & password.. At least, most providers over here seem to use a VPI of 38 - what ISP are you with? (Yours might really be 35 although that sounds a bit odd - however, if 35 was wrong, I'd have expected the PCI modem to not work..)

Odd..

Yeah, you sure your putting your correct ISP details in (Username and password is all you need)

And are you remembering to save and reset the modem after you have eneterd the info or it wont stor it.

Should connect withut a prob on out of the box settings.

I think new router was set to VPI 38 but i reset it to 35 to match PCI modem. Still no joy.

Is your connection MAC spesific?

I dont do ASDL so I dont know too much about it. However cable, if you plug it into another computer it wont work until you register the computers MAC address.
