A quick question the guys with these kits on are you happy with your brakes so far?

Still bedidng mine in hopefully they are all good for trackday ?

They Are Ok Warren. Done about 800 Miles on mine now and they work fine. I do think my next upgrade will be to get some new calipers as my existing stock ones are on there last legs. Anyone know how much Brembo calipers are for the Zed?

Seez ya!

Warren,

No problems with the disks and pads, in fact the braking is now excellent, my only comment is that they don't half rust. The front disks now have a good covering of surface rust over the non working surfaces.

FYI Guys, Pad choice is critical in TTZ's coz they're heavy sons of bitches.

The Stillen/Axxis Metal Matrix are OK for road use but you'll fry them on a track day (trust me, unless you're a nana). I grew a set of nads and tried stopping less than 300m out from our most infamous hairpin at 230kph after 2 laps at our local racetrack... brakes were fucked by the time I got down into 3rd gear (pad fade).

I've been recommended to use Ferodo DS 3000 pads as these are the ONLY things that will haul up a 300 and not distintegrate/glaze under the heat on the race track. There's almost no need for fancy rotors (just buy standard blank rotors) as you treat them as an expendable item. Here in NZ they're cheap as shit for DBA Blank Standard rotors. One of the GT-R boys used these pads on his stock GT-R brake setup in the Targa of New Zealand (!!) 5 days of balls to the wall tarmac rallying and was on the phone to the racebrake buys during the 1st day raving about how he couldn't believe that the car was actually stopping (remembering that by the time you get a full cage into an R32 GT-R it's going to have a shitload of weight).

FYI these are the same pads as used by people like the Ford Focus WRC team (!). Developed on the BTCC circuit. These have the highest braking coefficient which is constant over a large temp range.

So my setup for my next track excursion is

32mm thick GT-R Rotors & Calipers

Ferodo DS 3000 Pads

Motul 600 Fluid

On the road use Mintex 1144 pads unless you're an absolute nutter then go up to the 1166 compound. The DS3000's are not for road use ! If you've heard a Touring Car come into the pits with the squeals / groans etc of the brakes you'll know why ! And they eat discs.

Trust me make absolutely sure you buy suitable pads and fluid. The guys at RaceBrakes reckon that a stock brake setup with DS3000's will outperform on the track a big bastard brake setup with budget pads.

Also bedding in of Pads is critical, don't do it right and you'll get Green Fade where you can kiss your arse goodbye.

I've had pad and fluid fade on two separate trackdays and it's not pleasant coming into a hairpin with fuck all run off. Even scarier when you go into the pitrow, go to the hit the brakes and there's nothing (and I mean NOTHING, no retardation.. zip.. air & engine resistance only..). Thats what happens when your fluid boils and outgasses.. you just compress gas...

Don't let the secret get out hehehe..

Rowan

Warren,

I spoke to Kevin this week with the payment details. My set is in the post. Whats the recommended bedding in period?

Cheers,

Andy

Bought some of these a little while back and fitted par the instructions. Then had to turn them round the other way. Not cos they didnt work or anything but people kept telling me they where the wrong way round.

Got so pissed off, 4 people in 3 days, then people pointing when I stopped at traffic lights (might not be anything to do with it). But it all got too much and they got switched round. Still work aswell though.

LMFAO biggrin.gif

...and if you bought proper brakes like what I did!

They come in bronze colour so the rust don't show!

There's the best and there's the BEST!

Sorry, Don't wanna rub anyones nose in it! LMFAO biggrin.gif
