Consult software

Since I get quite a lot of emails regarding the 'consult'-software we're creating, here's a little update.

We're very far with it and have 2 versions at the moment..a DOS-version for lower-end laptops (486's) and a Windows version for the higher end laptops.

The part that enables you to monitor and test the engine-ECU and the Aircon-ECU is as good as finished.

We still need to complete the part that enables you to test/monitor the ECU's of the HICAS and the A/T.

Since neither of us have a Z with an autobox, the A/T-part will be a little bit difficult to test/develop for us.

I have put up a small preview (screenshots) of some of the current features of the software:

Let me know if any of you have any suggestions regarding other (important) features.

We haven't really decided on prices yet, also because the software isn't finished yet

Sofar we have put a LOT of time in the development of this software, but we're not in it to make big cash out of it.

We just hope it will be a useful tool for Z-owners (and maybe other Nissans as well)

I think we will release 2 versions, a monitor-only version (with logging capability) and a version that has it all (monitoring, logging, active testing and who knows what).

The 'monitor-only' version will probably be somewhere in the range between 100-150GBP. (around 200 USD)

The full version will probably be 2 times the price of the monitor-only version, but WAY cheaper then the original Nissan-consult (if you can find one).

Both software-versions come with an interface that hooks up to the consultport of your car.

Only problem we have now: we haven't managed to find a contra-plug for the consultport yet..

Our sources with Nissan are currently on the hunt for partnumbers of the original Nissan one, but knowing Nissan, the contra-plug will probably be very costly.

So if any of you has an other solution, apart from splicing into the wires of the plug...let me know !

Eric,

How's the software coming along?

I'm resurecting this thread as i've been offered an old laptop and wondered what the system requirements would be for your consult software?

Thanks m8

Tim

And as a follow on I may be able to get a number of low power notebooks at an unbelievable cut down price from work. Forget them for any serious use but I'm wondering about permanently installing one in my car anyway just for sat nav with a gps card.

Basically what I am saying is I may be able to provide a number of these for people to buy a complete package with software etc etc etc

Let me know.....

We're very near completion now..we're trying to iron out the bugs and test it out on as many different Z's as possible (to check for any incompatability problems)

anyway.. the A/T & HICAS stuff is now also working very well. smile.gif

requirements for the laptops are not very high.

The windows version runs fine on a 120Mhz laptop with just 32Mb of memory.

It runs under Win9x, NT and W2k (haven't tested XP yet wink.gif)

The Dos-version (also with a graphical interface) runs on even lower-end laptops

Eric,

That sounds fantastic - really looking forward to the release.

My other half thinks this is a bad thing - recons I'm already obsessed with the car without being able to monitor everything from the temperature in the footwell to the exhaust gasses! lol

Andy, If I don't get the L/T can you pencil me in for one of yours please. smile.gif

There are similar products offred for the 3000 GT / Stealth

The version running on a Palm costs US$ 155.-

The version running on a portable costs US$200.- or so.

If you keep the prices in the same ball park, it'll be successful...

I just bought the version running on a Palm for my Stealth, as it's 100000000 more convenient to have it in a running car than to try to have a laptop, and secure it.

The only drawback is that you have to export the files from the palm to the PC....minor problem actually.

On top of that, you can find a second hand palm for A LOT LESS money than a portable.

In fact, I'm even thinking about permanently installing the palm in the car...a la skyline computer system if you want (and as I bought a second hand Palm IIIc for a couple peanuts)...it should look NICE..

Zee you
