Had a call from the guys at QVR yesterday...my car's going to be ready to collect next Wednesday! Only fly in the ointment is that I'm leaving for Wales at stupid o'clock in the morning that day and not coming back till Monday so going to have to wait a bit longer yet till I pick her up. It'll look pretty rough and ready for a bit as they're not spraying it as (fingers crossed) the kit's going to start to be fitted fairly soon after I get her home. Anyways, here's a couple of photos they sent me today. So far she's been de-locked, de-handled, and de-swaged. The stone protection smoothed, sideskirts fitted and smoothed in and lambo lights fitted. Finally, the '99 spec front bumper has had its front air dam widened bringing it level with the top of the lights, losing the numberplate mount and relocating it to removable brackets that will sit on the bottom of the "mouth".

how you gonna open the doors?

Looks good though!

A button underneath each wingmirror (when they're put back on!;)) will activate a solenoid which pops the relevant door open! Clever stuff! :D

When I get her back the plan is to modify some jump leads and have them connected to the battery and run them down into the front wheel arch so I can jump her in case it goes flat for any reason. Think that should work.

Here what have you done to my old bumper

Have to admit it looks good. Also have to admit, I was dubious. What are you doing about the front strengthening brace.

Looks like a good body place- they send you pictures of the work in progress? Is this standard or are they just good? It will look quite different when it's all done- very modern.

Lol! Told you I was going to butcher it!:D Apparently the brace is not a problem (at least they haven't told me it has been!)

Rich, they normally post work in progress pics on their website but apparently they're having a few problems with it at the moment. I asked if they could send me the pics as they'd mentioned they could take some when I first visited. It's the best bodyshop I've seen so far TBH, very large, very well equipped and the guys that actually do the work really know their business. Have to admit it's a bit on the pricey side though which is why as much as I'd like to, I'm getting the bodykit fitted by someone else as there will be a lot of work involved, it being a non-300zx kit...;)

If you drop a lead from the battery + down the wheel arch and insulate it (halfords do some a decent length) then you should be able to connect the - to any bare metal underneath and start the car that way, saves running two leads

Looking good Leigh.

Cant wait to see the finished article, lots of good idea's there fella

Of course, me no thinkee straight, cheers for that Jock :)

Thought I might also fit another solenoid that would unlock the boot (but not pop it open as the boot is way too heavy for that to work without installing gas struts I should imagine). It would give me an emergency entry way into the car in case the door solenoid decides not to work.

Or while your at it get QVR to fabricate a hatch underneath the car so that you can climb in James Bond stylee!! You're "skinny" enough to fit underneath without needing to jack the car up (no offense intended matey! just having fun ;))

I'm really just kidding mate - looks like the car is getting on nicely. I need to speak with you regarding a couple of thing so I'll speak to you later on today.

CheerZ,

Speak to you later then bud :)

Looking good mate, this is a good mod without a doubt.

Whats the score with the interior, is this standard practice for body shops, i think i'd go barmy if I saw my interior lokking like that.?

I know mate, was concerned about that myself. Can't understand why they'd leave the windows down with all the filler dust about. Put it like this, if the interior isn't spotless when I pick her up, they won't be getting a red cent out of me till it's valeted!

I really couldn't decide if I was going to like the front end modified like that.. So I knocked up a little photoshop - and actually I think it looks pretty good, not out of proportion at all:

Originals (ZEngineers car on TTnet, gotta be my favourite 300ZX ;)):

:D I'm OK, there are better people out there though I'm sure ;)

Actually, I remember watching a guy turn a normal car into a convertible and add a spoiler once (I was about 15, so was more impressed with the fact that his Mac had a 21" monitor, but .. ) - you really couldn't tell at all .. now that was some impressive Photoshopping :)

Aaron

I'll give you a shout if ever i sell the car- He He

That car is bloody gorgeous. Sleek and smooth, even the colour is fab. thats what put me of the Strozek rear arches, but I'm in love with the explosion wide arches as they are sleek and not bulbous.

Yeah - like I say, definitely my favourite 300ZX :) Used to be an NA too - he converted it to a TT, so it's not just good looks either.. And that Lambo yellow is just beautiful. ZEngineer definitely did a top job :)

QVR called to tell me they're having problems getting the uprated solenoids for the doors. They're apparently on order from America with a 1 to 2 week delivery time!

Looks like I've got a bit more waiting to do yet till I get her back...:(
