Just out of curiosity I compared the weight of my alloys (Momo arrows 8.5 x 18) with the zed's std (7.5 x 16) wheels. The standards were 18KG (inc. tyre) and the Momo's 23kg. Multiplied by 4 and that's a healthy 20kg extra!

Will this reduce engine response and would fitting a lightened flywheel and/or various lightened accessory pulleys only increase the engines' response back to somewhere equivalent to when the standard alloys were fitted?

Can't really explain the effect on car's performance (Too much wine with dinner this evening :D ) but when I bought my Azevs (8x17 and 9.5x17) they felt way lighter than the stock ones.

I was surprised as to just how light they were......

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Can't help thinking that having lightweight alloys on your half shafts would be as good a performance upgrade as a lightened flywheel.

My car had GTR Skyline alloys on when i bought it, I couldn't believe how light they were when i took them off to swap them for my current wheels, my chrome wheels weigh a bloody Ton by comparison.

My BBS LM's are amazingly light. Can pick them up with one finger when there are no tyres on them.

Heavy wheels have a big effect on the car. In straight line performance not so much as they're spinning a lot slower than the engine.

The big downside is the increase in unsprung weight as this is weight that cannot be controlled by the suspension. Heavier parts lead to the suspension responding slower and basically upset the handling.

It's a good job I like straight lines then...
