Hesitation and misfire

When I pull up to a junction the revs drop right down to almost stalling, the engine then idles normally. When I go to pull away the car hesitates for what seems like ages and then pulls away.

When driving gently at approx 2000 revs the engine occasionally misfires?

Has anyone got any ideas please?

    TT.net have a tech/faq section on diagnosing hesitations.

     

    Check the obvious like spark plugs!

     

    Weak PCV valves have a habit of causing the engine to almost stall especially when de-accelerating. I've had the same problem. Apparently quite common. TT.net have a diag procedure for testing PCV's and replacing them is necessary.
