Radiator burst. F#!K

Got my Z up on the ramps at Kwik Fit and spotted a split at bottom right (looking from beneath engine to front) between the plastic case and cores. Water running out continuously.

How much is a new radiator from Nissan or are there any uprated ones available?

The Kwik Fit manager used to work on Z's and guessed at £800 plus 5 hours fitting?

Also said a re-core of mine would be about £300 but are these any good/reliable?

Bought some RadWeld for £3.99 but is it any good and will it damage anything on a Z monster before I try it as a last resort?

I need a 60K service and Cam belt change so does the rad have to come out anyway?

Presume it will be cheaper to get both done together.

Chris DONT USE RADWELD!!!It can restrict the

water flow in your coolant system.Buy a new rad it will be cheaper in the long run.As for

Kwik fit they are taking the piss!A rad from Nissan is around £300,I had a recore for £100

and it was a better spec than the original.

Yup, I paid about £300 at a main dealer for a new radiator and fitting (and compression test).

Don't know how you feel about dragging one in from the US but try these.

eek.gif What were you taking your Z to Kwik Fit for?

I wouldn't trust them with a normal family saloon...let alone a 300ZX!

Jeezuz Chri?t!! Five hours fiting! the rad is only held in with two 10mm bolts at the top and two main pipes and if auto a couple of cooler pipes,2 hours is plenty to remove and refitt still with time for a bacon sarny.

Try a breakers, plenty of good rads out there (Intapart etc) Jeff TT

£271.00 from Nissan..probably get one cheaper..speak to Johnny at Grasshopper...and never ever go to Quack Fit..they dont have a scooby do...

Regardz

PS might as well replace the small diameter metal pipes at bottem of rad whilst you are doing this cost about £30.00 ish (they rust like mad, v exposed to elements.

Good luck

Thats a big relief - £

Only went to Kwak Fit as they are the nearest place with ramps to check it out. I already knew it was either a split hose or the Rad - and they weren't going to get the job of changing it (I'm not that daft!)

Did most of the check under there myself anyway. Only took 10 mins so cost me nowt.

Just shows why the manager is working for Kwik Fit and not the main dealer. LOL

So am I better getting the Rad changed at the same time as my 60K ??

I'd have thought that removing the radiator at the same time as the service, would make access to the drive belts easier.

Had it confirmed that the radiator is 270 squids.

I spoke to the chaps at Hiteq today and they are going to change my Cam belt and fit a new Rad for £175.00 + parts.

Thats more like it!

Chris good choice mate biggrin.gifWhat happened to the

Radweld vote?Bring it back to the top and see if you get a response biggrin.gif

I knew it was too much to hope that something for £3.99 might fix a Z. That would be unheard of.

As you say it's not worth doing any more damage. What's another few hundred quid after all! LOL

Chris, hold yer horses m8 wink.gif

I had a serious leak on mine from the bottom three cores and, like you, shat meself. There's a guy in preston who does rads, rads and rads all day every day - he repaired mine for £20 biggrin.gif Great job, left it with him for an hour then it was ready - removal took all of 15 minutes and refit about 25 mins so kwik shit are REALLY takin the piss there. Just goes to prove the point about not trusting the first quote you get I suppose....

If you need any info or anything give me a shout. The place is called DW radiators and his telephone number is 01772 705777. If you wanted to send it to him etc I'm sure this would be fine - not sure how this would work out with hiteq though.... Maybe you could ask them to take it there to fix it rather than replace...

Mine is still holding strong btw smile.gif

CheerZ,

Andy

You'll all piss yerselves at what the previous owner of my car paid to have Nissan fit a new radiator then...

£800

Yes.. thats

£800..

I know.. I couldn't quite believe it either..
