I heard they have a tendency to flip over in corners, I don't know if there is a suspension mod to help counter this?

the brakes are not much cop either.

rev 1 doesnt have the best handling in the world

rev 2 is much better due to upgraded suspension and the engine being repositioned

rev 3 is best due to better suspension and i believe a better diff.

The turbo models all have better suspension that the NA models, I'm not sure about flipping them though,

brakes are comparable to a zed really,

when looking at them make sure they have had the coolant pipes changed, also if milage is getting on to the 100k mark its worth checking to see if the gearbox linkage has been changed also, these are both 6hour jobs, with pipes being £300 and linkage around £150 and both jobs require petrol tank to be dropped.

other than that they are strong little cars,

Better than 300ZX braking I bet ;) Only the rev1 model has the weakness with brakes/suspension.

Trust me, the MR2 does not have better brakes than the Z.

The Z ones work! ;)

I would say they are very very similar, with a good stock brake setup both seem to do the job.

No no no.

The ZX ones work.

Unlike the ones in the only MR2 I have ever been in ;)

I was looking at these before getting the Z. The Rev 3 is definitely the one to go for (round rear light clusters from the end of 94 onwards).

Went to leeds today to check one over,G reg Turbo,70kish,with history.

Got to say it looked pretty tidy, interior clean etc-until I started it up and removed the coolant filler cap! Mister Whippy anyone?.Now the guy[trader]

says it don't overheat etc and he never noticed the 'milk'

needless to say,had to upset the wife and told her to walk away! :x:

now where's Mikes number?

just sold mine about two months ago it was

mr2 turbo t-bar yellow

16 split rims

hks Turbo timer

Blitz Ecu (made a whole alot of difference) also had the standard one.

HKS SSQV BOV (best one to get sound really loud)

Ful S/S Exhaust

HKS Induction

i.C.E

i sold it for £3,300 to give you an example

it was H plate - with 76k with full engine rebuild done a 70k

sounds all nice but the expensive to look after as its a mid engine car so any work thats need to be done to the engine it will cost you...

if your looking for abt 60k one then make sure its got all the belts changed and also the water pump as it cost load to change it later on i got quoted between £300-£600 for the water pump as its a engine out job.

but the car was fun to drive and pulled away fast.

its best to buy the GTS version (round rear lights) as its more BHP 245 while GT is 225 BHP.

Fueling was quite good even with the Blitz ECU, as long as you don't rip it you'll get same as normal 2ltr car.

that all i can think of right now. :)

Mate,

My advice is go for a rev 2 (225bhp) or 3 (245bhp) as these have the suspension sorted and are more easy to mod. I believe on a rev 2 people advise against putting a bov on due to the air flow meter, the rev 3 has the newer type air thingy so bovs are fine. I used to own a rev 2 GT, the GT is the top model whereas the GTS hasnt got the leather / suede seats and a few other gadgets, power wise both are exactly the same.

Rev 2 - J-K plate

Rev 3 - L onwards i think. (round rear lights)

For a rev 2 I would expect to pay upto 4.5k for a good example with around 60k and a rev 3 anything from 4.5k up.

Just make sure it has been looked after like all cars and the cambelt side of things isnt that much of a big job as I had mine done and was only around £250 including service etc.

Good luck mate this is a very fun car and from pull away i would say these are quicker than a standard zed but midrange has no where near the tourque of the zed :)

Hope this is of some use.

:D

Cheers for the gen guys,a5ian-If i'd have seen that I would of taken your arm off!-got a thing for yellow!!

Anyways,I'm sorted now-had the one Mr Groves mate was flogging-wife in good mood :D

They don't flip on corners, the brakes are better than the Z's & they're quicker round the streets. I should know 'cause you've got my Z. :D

No reliability probs. Find one that still has the under covers & you shouldn't get the corroded pipes.

With exhaust & filter & boost at 15 psi you'll be getting about 260-265 horse & they can do it all day with no reliability probs.

As for the maintainance side, your a mechanic arn't you so there'll be no labour charge.

I love mine.

By the way, hope the old Z's treating you well. I still miss her.

You sure you're not thinking about the Chevvy Corsair, Mark? ;)

(otherwise known as the 'amazing flipping car' - http://www.failuremag.com/arch_history_corvair.html )

.....the brakes are better than the Z's .......Roy.

Well the 1 experience I had in a MR2 I nearly died because the brakes failed on it.

Its all I will say on the matter ;)

I know but you can't judge them all off that. I've changed the pads since I've had mine & they're fine on standard pads for the 260 that mine puts out.

I was more concerned if she was treating you well, glad your enjoying the old beast. You'll have to email me some pics with the new back lights. It'll be good to see how she's being looked after.

Take care mate.

Roy. ;)

I've had my MR2 Turbo (rev 3) for 3 years and done about 20k miles in it. In that time it has never let me down once (touch wood) and then only major thing to need doing was replacing the clutch at 75,000. Camblets should be changed every 60k or there abouts as well.

The rev 2 onwards are much safer cars and as long as you invest in some decent tyres (I prefer Toyo Proxies) the car gives enough feedback for you to keep control of the back end.... providing your not being a complete :smw:

Heres a few of the main oweners websites which all have detailed buying guides and revison change details. But if anyone has a specfic question post it up and I'll do my best :D

Cheers,

Gareth
