My Z just got its ass kicked! help!!

On my way back from the car wash today with my dad driving behind me in his car (a toyota soarer 4.0ltd 1700kg, 260 b.h.p) we decided to have a bit of a race on the motorway as traffic was light.

At 50m.p.h I put my foot to the floor, the autobox kicked down and I expected to leave the Soarer behind (as the Z usually does) but instead the soarer sat 20ft behind me up to 80m.p.h, at which point it started to catch me, and was right up behind me when the limiter on it kicked in (112mph), the Z doesn't seem as quick recently and this proved it, the engine was changed 2 months ago and the pcv valves were done, when I'm pulling away from a standstill the revs drop to 500rpm for a second before coming back up, and on occasion the auto wont kickdown when I put my foot to the floor, (the box was changed last year so is relatively new) does anyone have an Idea what could be wrong? It would be very embarrasing to be beaten by the local Subarus and GTI-Rs I cant let the side down like this so please help!! (also to stop my dad from taking the piss out of me with "call that a sports car?" taunts)

Thanks for any help,

Brian.

Did you have a new timming belt on the new engine ..

if so it may be timed wrong. is the engine

slugish to rev up ?

if so thats more than likely to be it.

I'd sneak out at night and let the tyres down on your dads Lexus mate wink.gif

I agree with DazZ.

I had this problem with one of my old cars which funnily enough was an auto. I had a water pump fitted and when they put it all back together again, it just was not the same car.

Anyway, cutting the story short, had another garage check it out and they had mis-aligned the top pulley by one peg. Legal proceedings followed which proved successful.

Other than this, the only thing I can recommend is bigger turbos or a chip and then tell your dad that you weren't really trying and that you will take him on any time.

You could be running in safety boost m8 (up to 7psi only)

Thanks guys for all your help, I'll let you know how I get on.

Immediate thought is safety boost. If car is ok otherwise. Or the lexus could have been uprated. But then again there is no reason why a 260bhp car can't keep up with a 280 bhp car.

The Lexus is actually my old car (I sold it to my dad) the figures for it are 0-60 in 6.9seconds and 0-100 in 16.something seconds, but the problem is that the Z used always beat it before, and now the lexus, (which due to all the electronic gizmos on board weighs about the same as the QE2) is now quicker than the Z I need some timing settings, has anyone got the proper settings?
