Car is a UK 1992 TT manual. Recently had a minor prang which caused some damage to the front bumper (was only a gentle tap, nothing hard), don't think this is related, but ....

Car had just been running/driving fine for about 30 mins, then sat idling for about 10 minutes outside a shop. Trying to drive the car away, it felt like the clutch had completely gone; clutch fully up in 1st resulted in a slight strain from the engine, nothing else. Tried turning off engine, waiting, pumping pedal etc, trying different gears etc. Eventually got car home by driving in first at about 3mph. Clutch felt slight lighter than usual, and stiff as normal with ignition off; no fluid or anything under where car was idling. Driving it home was like driving with a severely slipping clutch - although no noise/smell/odd feeling like a completely worn clutch, and it had been fine up till then !

any ideas would be appreciated :|

Cheers

just tried the car now, and clutch seems to be working fine. Making some odd noises, idling at around 2000 on startup dropping to about 1200 when warmer, and sounds a bit diesel-like :s

hmm...any suggestions ?!

seems like maybe a slipping TOB or a bent shift fork. Not being able to push out the bearing and engaging the clutch cover will result in a slipping feel. Who installed the clutch for you?

Same clutch as has been in car since I bought it about 4 months / 2000 miles ago. Been fine since then, tested it as best I can earlier as well - no slipping in high gears at low speeds etc.

How easy would either of those things be to determine - would they cause this kind of intermittent problem (although this is the first time it's happened)

Cheers

Air in the system - get it re-bled and adjusted correctly ;)

ehh...having poor clutch pressure won't result in the clutch slipping...that would give him the sensation of him not being able to shift smooth.....
