When I drive over a slight bump or a manhole cover at cruising speeds it feels like my car steps out to the side slightly, its obviousley worse if i am cornering at the time when it feels like the car might just spin out on me one day.

Ive spoke to Johnny who suggests checking the rear track rod ends so I just want to check with the rest of you incase anyone else has any ideas.

cheers

Paul

P.S. the suspension is stock..

when i first got my car, i had the exact same problem.

if you go to a dealer, they will tell you that hicas rack is broken and needs replacing (1100+vat) but most likely is as Johnny says, one of the track rod ball joints, either inner or outer.

i had one fixed for 180 quid inc parts and labour at a dealer.

you can check it easily by jacking the car up at the back and seeing if the wheels can be twisted in and out like normal steering. if so, then thats the problem.

If not, then it could well be worn shocks, as that will give you similar feeling.

The bounce test isnt really good enough to check this though. (mine felt fine until i took them off)

If it wasnt so late, i would probably make more sense... lol

Thanks Craig

Ive tried what you said and there is some play there and its worse on the drivers side although it is only a few millimeters but I suppose that is enough.

What do you mean by inner and outer track rod ends.I thought there was only one on the end of each arm.

Thanks

Paul

you have ball joints visible on the outer end of the track rod, but, if you peel back the boot on the HICAS rack, there is also a replaceable ball joint inside each end.

You need to get underneath and have a look which part is moving when you shake the wheel.

My faulty one was the driver side inner one, and i can give you part numbers if that is the case.
