Pre-cat advice

The more I do the more goes wrong  I am not going into the whole story but some mechanic damaged my new 18" rims and I had to put my old 16" back on the front because the rim is loosing air, as I had lowered the car it is now scraping speed humps. shortly after the front pipes seemed to start blowing so I assumed it was damage from this.

I had a quick look underneath and found a hole in the front pipes outer skin (nissan pipes) there was blackening around the hole but there seemed to be another leak further up but couldnt be sure where from, without further inspection I ordered front pipes from Luke as I wanted to de-cat anyway, the pipes arrived, I spent a few hours sliding around on my back, and started the car with the new pipes on only to find little or no change.

The leak seems to be around the pre-cat area, this could be a join that has worked loose or another hole and it may not be related to the speed humps anyway.

I am having a new engine fitted at the end of the month and am now leaving the leak for when the engine is out, but I am out of the country when its being done and I dont want the mechanic to go and buy parts as he will buy from nissan. I cannot work out from the car or manual what the pre-cat is made of as it has a sheild on it. to finally get to the point

My question is this - is the pre-cat cast like a manifold which would make it more likely a leak from the join or is it a pipe in which case it could be a hole or crack in the pipe.? this will help me arrange a spare part in case.

Any help appreciated

Pre-cat is a casting just like the manifolds ;) More than likely a join, like you say :)

Brian I know going away is not good but its typical I go away for work every five years or so and it has to be during major surgery.

Andy cheers once again mate, your like my local encarta, I'll have pay you back with a couple of jars some day soon when Ive got the engine done, ta mate
