just got my zed back after a major auto box rebuild and the day after it died

no coughing no spluttering just a stone cold cut out (just as if i turned off the key) after speaking to the garage who did the g/box they said it did that to them but after removing all the fuses and replacing them it started (more luck than judgement i think) any way does any 1 have a clue , i been told that the ptu can go just like it cut out ???? question is does any 1 have a known working 1 in the leicester area that they wouldnt mind lending to try

(i know its a bit cheeky but as you all know its a lot of dosh to shed out on the off chance that this is the problem) so is there any fellow zed owners out there that can help or advise....PLEASE call lee 07944 387203

How Much You Askin For The Complete Car ??

Andy Duff Thanks For That Seem Like Ya5een Might Be The Man Of The Moment ;)

It's worth checking the ecu for error codes before you swap the ptu out.

ive not got any data on how to perform the self diag test can you help with that at all dave

No problem. A PTU failure is code 21 by the way.

dave just a quick 1 .... the instruction say on the left of car near hood opener.....my hood opener is on the right side of the car ????

It's a US site, so they have everything on the wrong side.

The connector is by the hood opener in the driver's footwell. The ECU is in the passenger footwell if you decide to use that method.

well f..k me it finally stopped raining today so i went to do an ecu diag test and thought i`ll just try it first and it started !!!!!!!!

what is going on could the ptu have an intermittent fault if so HOW please shed some light on it ..... i`m really confused and slightly pissed off at the mo :(

It's definetly the ptu, I had the exact same problem just ask it'll be a faulty contact inside, contracts & expands with temperature change, hence the intermittance.

cool thanks for that.....ive heard the series 1 ptu is dodgy and the series 2 it fine.....i know they fit but i understand the wiring is different.....does any 1 have the diagram to change it please

How do fella,

So what was the result of the ECU diag?

I don't know if AndyP still does them, but he used to fix series 1 PTUs. I think he had a pretty good success rate, with only one that he wasn't able to fix (coincidentally mine  ).

When my PTU went, I had similar symptoms. It would start OK when cold, but then cut out a while later. Mine was a fairly catastrophic failure, so I made it to work with only one cut-out, but didn't make it home again...

i never did the diag as it staeted today ....if the car is running will it still pick up a fault ?? rich thanks for that i will call you when i get a series 2 ptu

many thanks to all members.....your help is appreciated

IIRC the ECU will store the last logged error code until it is reset or the codes are cleared using a Conzult. It should still be there..
