Spot light upgrade

Removed the front spot lamps today and fitted the chrome film in the area not covered by the reflector, also found the two end sections come off and did in their as well. Now the spots match the brightness (in the daylight) of the headlights.Even had enough film left over from before, cool.

J Spec spots are only 35 watt!! fitted 55watt

Jeff, would it be possible for you to make some sort of write-up (with pictures) on what you exactly did to the lamps ?

If needed I can host it for you, or otherwise we can put it up in the tech-section on the main page of 300zx.co.uk (Craig won't mind wink.gif)

So jeff how much do u reckon for the full job i.e. film, new bulbs etc...?

As I bought the upgrade bulbs "trade"

the total cost for a of pair headlights

is £12:00 for 4 x 100 watt bulbs £5:99 for the film and £1:80 for silicon sealant

The cost on the spot lamps is the cost of bulbs only £6:00 as enough film from before, total cost for all £25:79

I do a write up, luckly I did also take pics as I split the headlamps etc, also an easy way to remove the lights from the car. Jeff TT

Jeff,

What difference has the headlamp mod done for night driving? Is it cosmetic only (looks good) or does it help the brightness too?

Also 100w bulbs?! I understand the wiring and/or the relay (built into the dashboard switch) can not take the current!

im well up for this.. but jeff here is one to think about.

When ferrari originally braught ou thte 360 marrenello. they had a reflection problem wiht the headlight, basically the light cover reflected the sun and burnt the inside of the light cover, causing a major problme. Just a thaught but if that is chrome relfective could it no thave the revearse affect on the light cover ??

maby something to look out for.

Coogs the headlamp improvement is well worth it, the spread and definition of beam is much improved. Now there is not that big drop between main and dip, like when your diving on main beam and need to go to dip and suddenly you can`t see!! The improvement is 150% better (really)

Oh and the 100 watt power thing, well little secret there, the switch in the car is ok because it only operates relays under the bonnet. There is a problem with the Nissan cable, even when using normal rated bulbs, that been volt drop. The problem is known in Japan where a loom kit is available as an upgrade but strangely uses the same size cable. After doing some testing I found that by replacing and increasing the earth(negative) return cable size that volt drop is reduced and current capacity ok for the higher wattage bulbs. This mod is easy done when the lights out and costs a couple of quid max.

300z as far as sun reflection causing a problem.erm.. we live in the UK no sun!! no seriously don`t know more testing, will have to car on extensive teast in South of France any sponsors?..guys ...guys./you`ve gone quiet. (lol) Jeff TT

he he he forgot about the sun for awhile there biggrin.gif im keen to test next time i drive down to monaco in summer.

Thanks jeff. When will you have a tech description for us? This week I'm gonna do wot you did. I'd appreciate it.

Will try and write up info tommorrow, but how do I get it up on to the tech bit??? Jeff TT
