I am having a new engine fitted, (unfortunatley for the second time) I have contacted MJP for gaskets but I am struggling to decide which ones I need.

The last time I had the unit fitted I thought i'd do it properly and only do it once :( so I bought a full engine gasket set even though the engine (long block)was ready built (The set was either £180 or £280 cant remember for sure but it was from nissan) the mechanic used very few and gave me more than half back saying he didnt need them as there was a lot for the engine itself.

Now I am having another engine fitted I dont want to do the same, but the mechanic has said get all the copper washers for the banjos on the EGR system and all the obvious ones etc.

so can anyone help me identify the kits needed, I suppose I will need the Plenium, EGR, exhaust, intake. but I am mistified to be honest, I know there are guys on the forum that change engine units, your help would be really appreciated. Thanks

Dave

I got a full gasket set from the US. It came with virtually every gasket and washer, even a sump plub washer.

lower intake gaskets x 2

plen gasket

full water gasket set including water pump

EGR gaskets

copper washers for the turbo banjos

Exhaust manifold gaskets

exhaust downpipe gaskets

balance bar O rings

sump plug washer

Oil pump gasket if its not fitted

oil filter housing bracket gasket

Is the plen already built ???? if not you will need AAC and throttle body gaskets

Are the turbos on the manifolds ??? if not you will require turbo rebuild gasket set

I would also look to change the Crank front and rear seals along with the cam seals if everything is out , might also be an idea to change the cam cover gaskets x 2 and reseal the other two

so tbh it would probably be easier to buy the full rebuild kit and just make sure your mechanic changes thye additional bits along with the actual required parts

Cheers Ryan thats exactly what I needed thanks for the effort mate!

No worries

Probably worth doing the det sensor and harness while you're at it too ;)

I'm with Ryan on this one too - full gasket set - just not worth risking not replacing any, plus the fact that the 2 lower intake gaskets alone cover most of the cost of a full kit ;)

Cheers Andy (fellow prestonion!)

I give in - I think the full set it is, would you also go for changing the rubber hoses at the back of the engine cause I considered that as well (water and oil)?

Bypass the throttle body coolant lines. Change any hoses that are left. Probably worth getting some new heater matrix hoses too. It depends how far he's going to rebuild it as to how much is worth doing though tbh. You could even go the full distance and replace the core plugs...

Didn't realise where you were LOL Will have to try and meet up :)

Yeh Ive seen you suggesting this before, sounds like a good idea, i have a look how you do it, again sound advise mate, if Id have known you were around before the engine change I,d have met up sooner and then I might not need to be doing this again to start with, Thanks

No worries :) Time for an FAQ with pictures on TB coolant bypass me thinks ;)
