Just had a shufdie in Firefox Ryan, and the page.. well, breaks horribly - all the styling is missing so you can't actually read most of it :(

I'd recommend downloading Firefox and using that as your development browser, then once it's done test in IE and tweak whatever needs tweaking - IE's standards compliance is.. well, it isn't standard compliance, whereas Firefox is - so the other compliant browsers are almost guaranteed to work (like Safari in the Mac, Opera on PC/Mac/*nix etc). To be exact, they're guaranteed to work a lot better than developing with IE in mind ;)

Firefox is far more secure than IE, better features, less bugs, less security holes, no auto-installing-spyware, no browser hijacks etc.. everyone ought to be using it anyway ;) Heck, Microsoft even recommend it now....

Looks nice in IE though :)

Looks top notch to me.

I'll be in touch soon as my 60K is due in a couple of thousand miles

Steve

Very, very impressed mate. Exactly what evryone in the Zed community needs! Best of luck to you! :)

Looks like a very professional site. Well done! I doubt you will ever be short of business, but if you ever need any tips optimising it for google and the rest of the search engines, let me know.

I'll try and find a bit o' time to have a shufdie at it tomorrow and see if there are any easy fixes that'll get it working in Firefox ;) Is it a site that you developed yourself, or did you get a company in to do it?

I haven't been a subscribed member here for quite some time, so I don't think you can contact me via the site - but feel free to email me - aaron@mind-design.co.uk (mods: I'm not touting for business honest, I'll do it for free as a favour to the Z community :) I'm just such a nice bloke.. )

Too right - if my hair was long enough to grab hold of, I'm sure cross browser issues would have had me tearing it out on more than one occasion.. Good job there's already none left then

I do it for a living ;)

Ditto :) Seems there's more than a few of us on here, in fact!

yes please Bud

No probs geeza. It doesnt happen overnight, but worth putting the effort in to get a good search position. Managed to get my misses's site towards the top on page one for her chosen keyword- 'lingerie' ;) .

She gets a good few orders a week from Google.

I'll email you the most important stuff over.

AL

Al - can I have a copy of "Al's Google tips" too please :cool:

Funny thing, ebay are often a sponsored link when searching on "grounding kits", and when you click the ebay link it goes straight to the list of my items on ebay! When they're listed of course.

Ryan - it might be worth putting an "auction" on ebay with some search terms, seems like a back door enter to googles front page

will be doing just that shortly Pete , problem is I could not cope with the additional work it would bring in until January

Ryan

If you can send me the files or give me direct FTP access to the webserver then when I get the time I would be happy to help mate. Or if Aaronjb has more time he could do it for you.

Chris P

it takes a few months to see any good results on the search engines and longer to be the best. But I reckon for zed related stuff there should not be much competion. Just done a search on '300zx engineers' and google came back with 252 results.

In my case if I search for 'lingerie' I get 3.9 million results and we're at position 3 on page 1

Its great beating the bigboys at their own game.

I'll send AL's secret tips to anyone who want em as long as you aint in the undies business :D

It is a great feeling when you manage to beat the big boys. I got one of my clients, a small courier company #1 on google for keyword search couriers, ahead of DHL etc ... bloody hard work though, a lot of time and effort, practically a full time job.

yep, I know that feeling. When I was exchanging links, I was up till 2 in the morning every night for over a month. Probably sent out over 1000 mails. Thats the boring bit. But I dont think Ryan will need to go quite as mad as that, just get his site listed in a few key places and try and swap links with other zed related sites should do the trick.

What I'll do is start a thread in the private discussion area, and post up my tips there. As there are a few web heads on here, perhaps you can all add to it, as I am always on the lookout for new tips.
